So, Garcia must start tonight then!

All I'm hearing on the radio, on the telly, and in the papers is that Luis Garcia is THE man for the CL. So, he simply must start tonight especially as he's coming into good form of late.

Do we play him out wide, or do we play him behind the striker(s)?

My guess is that we'll play a 4-4-2 formation again tonight as it's proved successful in recent games, with Garcia playing on the left of midfield cutting in and supporting the strikers as we attack. Anyone agree?

My stab at the impossible for tonight's line-up is:

    -------------Reina
    Finnan-Carragher-Agger-Riise
    Gerrard-Sissoko-Alonso-Garcia
    ---------Bellamy-Kuyt

Subs: Dudek, Aurelio, Hyypia, Gonzalez, Crouch, Zenden, Fowler.

I think I read in the Times this morning that it is likely Crouch will place because apparantly some bloke over the weekend (about the same height as Crouch) scored twice and created all sorts of problems for Galatasary

He does seem to raise his game in the CL, probably as he gets a bit more time or space.

I have no idea what team rafa will start tonight, my best guess will be this

      ---------Reina
      Finnan---JC---Hyppia---JAR

      Pennant---Alonso---Momo---SG

      ------Crouch/Kuyt -- Luis G

Why this team? i have know idea, but at the moment noone can predict what team rafa will start. Hasn't Pennant started in the last two CL games? Bellamy to be rested, on form it should be Kuyt but I wouldn't be suprised if Crouch starts. Agger rested as Rafa goeas for experience in the back 4.

To be honest , anyone one of us could have scored against Gala at the weekend , they were shocking....if they play tonight as they did then we will get a hatful

I leave to fly back for the game in a couple of hours and my Fenebahce friends have told me not to come back unless we win 4 or 5 nil

Take note of the recent good results this season, the games have changed when Garcia has arrived on the pitch playing as a second striker in the hole, maybe we should be giving Garcia that role for tonight and play with 4 midfield players behind himself and another striker.
Bill shankly to Tommy Smith after he'd turned up for training with a bandaged knee:
'Take that poof bandage off, and what do you mean YOUR knee, it's LIVERPOOL'S knee !'

"Sorry, boss, I should have kept my legs together," said Lawrence. "No, Tommy, your mother should have kept her legs together!," replied Shankly.

            * After Tommy Lawrence had let in a fluke goal between his legs

I am certain Garcia will start tonight
I also reckon that Carra and Sami will start in defense together

Garcia for Gonzo and Carra for Agger --- I reckon those will be the only changes for the team tonight

RAFA: LUIS IS A SPECIAL PLAYER

Rafael Benitez is backing midfield maestro Luis Garcia to again play a crucial role in the Reds' quest for glory this season.
Garcia has carved out a reputation for himself as a 'big game' player since his arrival on Merseyside as his goals and match winning performances have helped Liverpool bring major trophies back to Anfield.

After coming off the bench to play his part in Liverpool’s weekend victory over Spurs with a clever assist for Dirk Kuyt’s strike, the Spaniard will be hoping to get the nod from Rafael Benitez to start tonight as the Reds look to record their first victory in this season's Champions League.

"Luis is a player who can change games, do different things, find a clever pass," says Benitez. "He's capable of the best and sometimes the worst. He's scored a lot of very good goals in Europe and is a special player. He's a good option for us to have.

"Luis is a player who can produce the best, but also give the ball away too easily. But if you remember the goals that he's scored - they're fantastic and very important. And he always scores 10 to 15 goals each year.

"I look at the positive things from him rather than the negative. At the end of the day, if the player is working really hard, that is all that matters. He can do the simple things and then the amazing things. I have said to him to try and do his special things nearer the other team's penalty area and not ours.

"He is learning and is doing the simple things in our half of the pitch and the more difficult things in the other team's half."

i wonder if he's a "special" person, does he go to school with the other "special" people

scoring good, bad pass verry bad, ok? heres the ball now go play
"I have decided to escape, to defy the shogun. Today I will begin walking the road to hell. But you will choose your own path. So, soon you may be seeing heaven. Choose the sword, and you will join me. Choose the ball and you join your mother, in death. You don’t understand my words, but you must choose. So… come boy, choose life or death."

"You would've been happier if you'd chosen to join your mother in her world. " - Ogami Itto

Yeah, I definitely think that Crouch will either start tonight on on Saturday against Bolton.

I read that piece about the Gala game at the weekend so Rafa might go with him tonight.

There is no way Rafa will play certain players because of how some other player/team faired against the same opposition.
He'll look at what he believes both of our and their strengths / weaknesses are and field a team that he believes will get the result.
Rafa is far too intelligent and tactical to play a system just because some other team beat Gala playing a certain way.

I still think it's something he'll keep in mind, if they had obvious troubles trying to contain a tall striker, then wouldn't it make good tactical sense to consider it as an option.

I didn't mean that Rafa will pick Crouch for that very reason though mate!

He'll probably have had Crouch in mind for this one or Bolton anyway with the games coming thick and fast.

I'd be surprised if Garcia wasn't starting tonight - deserves it on current form, I'd probably start him on the left.
