ok **** off perhaps harsh - swap for sell.Originally posted by Reece View PostYou have a real way with words
i have never doubted kuyts professionalism or his work ethic. it's his talent that i question.
he did have a good summer tournament, he has everything still to prove for us and i really do hope that i eat my words. but so far for the role we bought him for he has been extremely disappointing.
he's failed as the conventional striker, regardless of what BFG thinks Kuyt was bought as a striker - it was his hard work and professionalism that resulted in rafa persevering and playing him on the right imo. Saying all this if we were to buy someone like bentley or indeed have any viable alternative on the right kuyt would not get a look in there either.

Indeed Reece - the one thing nobody can say about Kuyt is that he doesn't give 110& every time he pulls on the red shirt. When I think back about some of the dross we've had over the years who've been happy to take their huge pay packets and then slope around the pitch putting 0 effort in its difficult to see what Kuyt does to deserve any abuse at all. Thinking, and saying, that he isn't good enough is one thing, but I hate to see someone who gives blood sweat and tears to our cause week in week out get the level of grief the lad did last season.

Kuyt will never be the most skillful or exciting player but he does have tactical discipline, vision, awareness, touch and decent passing and finishing ability. I think he's a very worthwhile member of our squad and has great versatility, another favourite trait of Rafa's.
I really think he's gonna surprise some of his detractors this season. A bit more end product to go with the workrate and I really can see him going on to become a bit of an Anfield legend.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
Mine angry and defrauded young?

We paid £9/£10m for him. He's good enough to justify that fee imo. Could be worse, could be Cisse at £14m whom some people adored, or Diouf at £11m whom everyone hated, or any number of ****e players for whom our competitors have paid a lot more. Or for that matter any number of players who have turned out decent for the modest fee that £10m is these days..Really?

Effort and workrate are useless without talent. Too many people don't seem to understand this. Top teams have talented, skillful, flair players who can change games - the also-rans have workhorses like kuyt and try to claim that "giving 110% for the red shirt" :yaaaawwwwn: is more important than finding the net.

Wrong tranny, wrong. Kuyt HAS got talent. He wasn't on song at the beginning of last season but he came on his own during the latter stages. He may not be a flashy player and possibly could score more, but to say that his overall contribution to the team is to be judged by the number of goals he scores is a totally flawed assumption.Originally posted by carheex View PostEffort and workrate are useless without talent.
