that is impressive. 2 years ago I wouldn thave been so keen on Keane (excuse the pun!) as he did seem to be a MOTD player and looked good on the highlights tape. But the past 2 years he has hit a great vein of form and has improved his all round gmae.

It's decent for a striker. Better than 30m Adebayor and about the same as 35m Tevez.

Just saw Tevez's stats for last year

              07-08 / 39 / 19 / 8

              Remarkably similar.

and he manages double figures in the league every season.

I think he will be an excellent signing.

I don't think he can measure up to giant Igor Biscan.

The only problem is he's scored goals while playing as a striker.

He's not going to get into the side at the expense of Torres.

So either we're going to change our system and go 2 up front (i dont see why we'd change from the largely successful 4231) or Keane wont be playing in his 'proper' position, which will hamper his chances of scoring loads of goals.

My guess is that he'll play where Stevie played last season (and he scored a few from there!!) - and IMO Stevie may play quite a few games on the right side next year!!

He's played in the hole before, I don't seem him needing to adapt.

Here is Berbatov's take on Keane

"Last season was great as well and this season we have proved again we can work together and understand each other," said Berbatov.

"I'm very happy that our relationship is like that on the field. Obviously there are games when things are not working right but we know how to play with each other. When one is moving the other wants the ball, it's like a telepathic connection.

"That's what I like, he is a great technical player, he thinks with his head when he is playing and that's what I like most about him."

Keane played in the 'hole' last season and even made up a fifth man in midfield, exactly the type of striker Rafa has been looking for. If he can contribute anywhere near that amount of goals and assists he will be a huge asset.

as long as he's not a defensive striker i'm not really bothered where he plays. having said that i read the shankley interview on the other thread and i thought it was really telling what the great man had to say about natural talent and using players where they play best.
