This year's Champions league squad??

UEFA this year have increased the minimum number of "locally trained" players needed in order to register a full 25 for the champions league.

Clubs can register 17 players plus 3 who were trained in that nation and 4 who came through the club setup.

In view of this, I was wondering which four of the list below people would leave out of the squad - more obvioulsy if we sign another foreign player or include a 3rd choice foreign keeper.

I reckon the squad will look something like:

3 - GK - Reina, Diego, Gulacsi
9 - Defenders - Carra, Agger, Darby, Arbeloa, Skrtel, Sami, Finnan, Dossena, Aurelio
7 - Midfielders - Gerrard, Spearing, Alonso, Mascherano, Yossi, Pennant, Lucas
5 - Attackers - Kuyt, Keane, Torres, Voronin, Ngog

If Barry were to sign he'd probably take the 4th national trained spot, and the last spot in the squad. If we get someone else then we might need to juggle but I'm not clear on who else qualifies from the ressies.

So you'd drop Degen, Babel, Plessis and Insua from the squad?

I'd have Babel in ahead of Voronin.

If Stevie G isn't fit for the qualifier next week, then it would be Alonso and Spearing with no other centre mids available.

Hehe honestly forgot about Babel. He would be in there of course.

But Degen I'm not sure because Finnan and Darby need to be in the squad because of the nationality issues. Considering you then have Carra and Arbeloa who can play RB and you don't really need a fifth in the squad.

Plessis and Insua are talents for sure but if they don't meet the criteria I can't see them being included.

We don't need 3 keepers in the squad, I don't understand why u need 3 keepers in the squad? The chances of a keeper getting injured is slim to none. And even if it did happen it's such a specialist position that if that were to happen UEFA would HAVE to allow another one to be brought in. So I would take Gulacsi out. Furthermore he hasn't even been allocated a squad number so it look slike Rafa will only be picking 2 keepers after all...
