    carra

not an easy reactionary knocking thread but if i had to pick something to worry about i'd pick carra tonight. can't see why he's been nominated for MOM in the MOM thread. if you leave out settling in, nerves, not clicking at all and all the other elements that were disappointing about tonight would've really hoped that carra would have been a bit more solid. so shaky at the start and outmuscled loads of times. life wothout sami is tough for him.

Carra's a legend mate, I've never seen anyone play better especially when they are clearly pissed out there head, imagine what he would do if he was sobber. I'll have him in my pub team anyday.

hm I have been worried about his form for some time now (as well as Gerrards) certainly at present Skrtel and Agger look a more solid partnership. I also would have thought quitting england would have given him a lnew lease of life
Still it is early doors and may just prove to be a bit of ring rust for carra.

I think I would have bought Hypia on for this one. Especially on seeing how we were being beaten in the air around the box.

            Carra was fine tonight.
Agger looked very rusty..obviously he was going to though after being out for so long, but he isnt ready to face the likes of droga and co yet i dont think.

Agger and he formed an excellent partnership before Agger's injury, so I'm not sure about the absence of Hyppia bit, but I'd agree that he didn;t make a particularly convincing figure out there last night. However, its extrememly early doors and Carra is a legend for a reason, he's a top defender and will be fine when the season really kicks into gear. Especially with Skrtel and Agger around to pick up some of the workload.

Bit to early to say since we havent seen them play together in a proper match, did they even get many minutes together in the friendlies?

                        is the wrong answer

Carragher was dominated in the air and was slow to second balls and that was so clear to see.

I love Carra as much as anyone else but his performance last night was way below his average!

He'll get better though thats for sure. If he doesn't then he simply can't carry on playing at CB for us with performances like that. The same goes for basically everyone on the pitch though so I'm not going to worry too much and hope we are a totally different side against Sunderland at the weekend.

the problem wasn't Carra it was in front of him. He covers the gaps and how many times did he end up in the full back position on the half way line?

If this is the system we will be playing then thenn the sooner Masher comes back the better as he'll do this.

There was 4 or 5 times when both centre backs got caught a yard or two from Liege's target man and because he was such a big ****er they had no chance once they'd afforded him that space.

It's not really fair to single Carra out as the whole defence was poor and he was the one trying to organise a centre half who hadn't played for a year and a new full back and was constantly being pulled out of the middle to cover the other three.

When they're fit and sharp I doubt they'll drift off like that but I couldn'thelp thinking at times we needed a bit of Skrtel power last night. He doesn't give an inch.

Our back 4 as a unit were well below average last night, to the point of we could easily be out of the CL if it was not for a combination of Pepe saving our arse and woeful finishing from them.
