    lawro off to a flyer

    with his predictions

    lets hope not

    Sunderland v Liverpool
    (Kick-off 1730 BST)

Liverpool looked a couple of yards short against Standard Liege in the Champions League, but Steven Gerrard should be back and the start of the Premier League always brings the extra edge.

But Roy Keane's side will be up for this. It is interesting that Roy has gone from signing players who played in the Championship to bringing in people who have got hundreds of top-flight games behind them.

This makes such a difference and I think they will start the season by getting a point.

    Verdict: 1-1

If anything, Sunderland are going to be very busy and close us down similar to Liege. Unless we demonstrate we can control and move the ball at pace, rather than panic and resort to long balls, then a draw is the most likely outcome IMO.

Sunderland won't be easy prey, they opened up against Spurs last year and were good value for a win.

                Think we'll scrape it 2-1.

Sunderland will play exactly the same and our 'This is our year' will embarrass us again.

oh come on lads, its only been one game against a team that very much overperformed, and to say the least our lads underperformed. we will have stevie back for this one, and probably carra will move to rightback and skrtel to the center of defence, which should give us a bit more physical presence, which we lacked(amongst other things) agaist liege.

it won't be a pretty match, but i'm going for a 1:0 win!

and how many does lawro actually get right?! about 2,3 out of 10? not very impressive for an expert...

Nothing new there then. We always underachieve and seem to bring the best out of our opponents

Sunderland won't have gelled yet. If the three Spurs aquisitions play, they will all be on a downer. Having moved to Sunderland is a backward step....yes, yes...even from Tottenham!

I think they will freeze and though you might have initial difficulties I think the 'pool' will win 3-0
