I am elated that we won today, it could be a vital win and it sets us up for the rest of the season knowing we can grind out results so fair play to Rafa and the lads.

However today again proved what many of us have been saying and the reason why we won't win the league - our wide positions. I can't say Steed Malbranque and El Hadji Diouf are that much worse than Kuyt and Benayoun - and therein lies the problem.

Even when Babel comes back, even when Gerrard goes right when Mascherano is back it still won't match United and Chelsea.

We will lose the league on the wing, other teams full backs are faster and more attacking than our wide attckers and that tells it's own story.

i dont think playing with plessis helped him in any way whatsoever. The young lad is not ready for competitive action and went missing completely in belgium. Its not his fault but he is simply not ready and xabi was trying to make up for them both.

But against them our entire side looked second best not just xabi.

But I don't want width for the sake of width. I want someone playing on the RW who scores and assists. There is no-one else around who would give you more in that role than SG.

Having width allows you to open up & stretch defences tho. It's not like we even know where Stevie's gonna be playing. He didnt play out wide today did he? Kuyt did & he wasnt very good. Through the middle, Keane, Stevie & Torres have the potential to be as good as nay attacking trio, but if they're all in the same area, they'll trip over each other & get crowded out by defenders.

its clear we're gonna play 4231. keane will play behind torres, gerrard will play on the right with the two central midfielders being made up of masch, alonso or barry.

babel is good enough on the left. the likes of yossi, kuyt, lucas etc can provide rotation.
