I am not defending him but people going on about Parry ****ing up Barry's deal might want to look at the Torres deal.... Rafa can do no wrong has reached new heights.

Internet rumour, and tabloid gossip...pretty sure there were some quotes around from around the time where Rafa stated he had no problem with Alonso missing the clash, and the whole issue stemmed from a journalistic interpretation of comments made by Rafa before the match ....

"We could not wait and hear no information," he said. "In the end we had to decide because I can't wait and wait and wait for one player right until the end, when you don't know what's going on.
"The question is, when you can't change anything, the most important thing is to think about what you do with the other players."

Nothing wrong with that, but if you add words like an "angry and frustrated Benitez" and "Benitez's actions will shock" then all of a sudden, his words can sound cold and callous. But all he said was we can't wait, and i need to pick the players i know will be available. Nothing wrong with that.

      a) after a year of injury he wasn't sure Alonso would be back to form; HE wanted this deal done last May. Source?

      b) He thinks Barry is better for his system and saves him having to actually buy a winger (what the man has against wingers I have no clue *ha*) His system relies on the fullbacks providing width, as does Utd, Arsenal, Chelseas...

      c) Rafa is an obsessive control freak, a creative type who wants it his way and is looking to solve our problems in the league and in Europe. I completely want someone like that managing my side, end of. Agreed

      d) Rafa is way too public with his feelings. Keep it in the boot room! The "Liverpool Way" is dead, todays dealings are done via the media, it'sa fact of life. Look at United, Chelsea, Arsenal...any club infact, when it comes to big name signings

NONE of this has Xabi doing anything wrong to me... This from the same article the quotes above were taken...

"The Spanish midfielder was angry that he was overlooked for youngster Lucas Leiva, a player with lesser experience, and had several showdowns with his manager"

Showdowns with the manager...nah, can't be, it's just a tabloid rumour...

So it is Rafas fault for the top deals being done or not or Parrys? You just cant blame Rafa for the bad deals and Parry for the good. I said last year Parry done a good job, and really think he has his hands tied this year by Gillett. He is like wormwongue from LOTR will ram hist tongue in anything as long as it keeps him his job.

I heard somewhere that Parry didnt have a lot to do with the Torres deal and that the chief negotiator was eduardo macia.

that might explain the 'bargain' fee that we paid for him.

Who agreed to the figure of 6m euros going to Real Sociedad if the fee was less than 16m euros that's an abysmal deal on our part. The sale of Alonso for less than 16m euros means Real Sociedad will get a minimum of 37.5% of the fee!!
The only gracious way to accept an insult is to ignore it; if you can't ignore it, top it; if you can't top it, laugh at it; if you can't laugh at it, it's probably deserved.

Macia it certainly wasn't. It was and always is Parry.

The problem is that Liverpool open thier mouths to early and turn transfers into a media circus. Chelsea or Utd show interest in a player, put a bid in, the player gets signed end of. We make everything so complicated and unprofessional.

Whether this is Rafa's fault or Parry's i don't know but what i do know is the club has unsettled a player that may turn out to be key for us in the next couple of weeks and in the long term that helps no-one.

I heard this too, from a current player, and it was backed up by a journalist friend of mine too. my imaginary friends, just like Rat****'s!

Do you think Torres would of contemplated coming here if Rafa wasn't here and our status as the number 1 rated team in Europe?
Nah. He won't win the Prem. You can quote me on that. - Sarb24

think it was mate. There was an article in Marca magazine about the silent force at anfield and they specifically mentioned that macia had a hand in the negotiations with all new acquisitions including torres.

Let's remember we didn't have much cash when we signed Alonso, we probably were held to ransom with the sell on clause to bring him to the club.

Back in 2004, no sell on clause, no deal. Desperate times called for desperate measures.

I don't know really... how did Wenger get that fella from Seville? He had an equally big reputation when he signed for Arsenal. Jose Reyes - although he flopped. Liverpool are a big name with or without Rafa.

Maybe because the Gooners were winning stuff at that point?

I don't have a source for this; just that Rafa has been trying to sell Alonso to Juve and bring in Barry since May. I assumed it is because he doesn't think Alonso is as able as Barry and can't get it done... which is why he wants to sell him and bring in Barry.??
