Let's throw caution to the wind...

...and try to get Riquelme. Have a completely fluid front 4 or 5 with him turning the screws. Let everything happen through him and just try to score more than the opposing teams.

If anyone can break down stubborn defences, it's him. And imagine the set pieces. We may actually score from a corner!

Great mates with Mascherano, and I reckon is tough enough for the premiership.

He's had his year or two back in South America and it's time for him to step up to the plate and prove that he is one of the true legends of the game and where better to do that than at Anfield.

I know it sounds crazy but he'd raise everyone up a level.

This guy is easier to shut down than Alonso. Too slow for the Premiership.

Nah. He is techincally a quality player but is too slow and too central for our needs.

hmmmm i really wonder. Sometimes you see a player that you think won't cut it and he surprises everyone. I reckon if the purse-strings were that tight and we could get him on a free (or very cheap) then it could be a great deal..... could very well be a cult hero gary mac type signing.....

          a team of....

          --------------------REINA----------------------

          ARBELOA---CARRA----------AGGER-----DOSSENA

          -------------------MASCHER--------------------

          ------GERRARD----------------ALONSO----------

          ------------------RIQUELME---------------------

          -------KEANE----------------TORRES------------

could be magic alright. People talk a lot about the need for width but in my opinion, once mascher gets back, then he will protect the defense a lot more than the last 2 games - thus allowing the full backs to bomb forward a lot lot more. Dossena will turn out to be a good player going forward in my opinion and Arbeloa would also have stevie G helping out down the right in the above formation. Riquelme would be a great link up player in that he would have both Keane and Torres to pick out with his sublime through balls. Also, the above formation could be altered to allow babel in place of either striker as a left winger..... If we did have Roman in the team, i'd like to see him deployed never further back than the halfway line. People say he is too slow for the prem, but the likes of Bergkamp, Sheringham, McAllister none of them had blinding pace but their gmae intelligence meant that they could still impact games in a possitive way. And also, his set pieces are ****ing amazing too....

Won't happen though - he's probably of the opinion that its a bit late in his career to be moving again.... with our argentinian contingent though, you never ****in know!

never mind having little width in the team, this line up would have absoloutely no width. arbeloa has shown little in the time he's been here that he can provide the attacking width we need and dossena seems to be more defense minded. that would leave masher, stevie, alonso, riquelme and keane all cramed into the middle of the pitch. what we really need is wide players. this was evident against boro. to many of our players tend to cut inside and go central. we are crying out for a wide man ( cant beleive i'm saying this but a stuart downing type player who stays wide and tries to put crosses in ). gerard and keane can play the riquleme role more effectively in the EPL than riquelme would IMO.
People who think there's no good way to die have obviously never heard the phrase 'Drug-fuelled-sex-heart-attack'.

That would work if Carlos and Cafu(at their peak) were our fullbacks.
This myth that we are getting width from our fullbacks has been found out already.

Lets give Dossena a chance eh. He's barely played 2 games. Arbeloa is doing a good job defensively atleast so no reason why he cant get better and better

I agree that he's slow, but he makes up for it in strength and game intelligence. He's not easily knocked off the ball and he'd suck in at least two players and still be able to release the ball to a teammate.

He has the ability (and the passing range) to give the others the confidence to play a bit wider. And did I mention the set pieces?

I also agree that we'd benefit more from having speedy full backs but there really is no one like him in the league and he'd add much needed unpredictability to the team.

Think with Masch back we will start seeing the fbs attacking more, think this was also the reason Rafa was so desperate to sign Barry as he could fill in at left back when Dossena got forward.

id love it, real quality, maybe too slow, dont know, but every time i see him i enjoy watching him play, and i always look forward to watching him when he's on the box
