He's only ever played on the right for us a couple of times and quite frankly he's crap there. His best position is the inside left position. He's definately not a striker either - he was absolutely useless in the Olympics where he played up front but looked more comfortable when he was bombing it down the left/inside-left positionOriginally posted by Darth Marty View Posttidy post rashid, keep it up mate!
Regarding Riera i have to admit im not enthused about him but then i must admit that he is an improvement (god i hope so anyway) on what we currently have. Wonder where this leaves Babel though? Hopefully on the right! My kebab comes with chilli sauce

I dunno, Dossenna has looked an improvement upon JAR.
Insua should get a chance to shine, he seems to have lost his place in the Argie u21 to Monzon as well. If he doesnt get the chance then he will just fade away. As for Fabio, he is quality, but injury prone.
I think Dosseena will be here for a while longer anyhow.
As forKeane, think he is looking ok, but is trying to do too much to impress when he should just play his natural game.
Once we go back to 4231 I think we will see a lot more from him and Dossena

Same here - (IMO) he's been by far our best signing taking into consideration the price we paid for him. The real test will be how plays in the PremiershipOriginally posted by slimbimjim View PostOut of everyone, I am most excited about Ngog. I think he could be killer in the last 20 minutes of matches! Very direct and has a decent shot.My kebab comes with chilli sauce

That's only 2 people who have expressed a negative opinion on him in this thread. You can flip your comment and says how people are rating Dossena as a an amazing player thats better than John Arne Riise. The fact is, Riise was a great servant to this club and achieved a hell of a lot but I'm glad we got rid of him as over the last years he declined heavily. I can't undesrtand how people say he is better than Riise?Originally posted by Reece View PostI can't believe people are writing off Dossena after two Premiership games. I seem to remember threads on how impressed people were with him during pre-season. I get the feeling some people expect every new player to make a Torres-esque impact nowadays.
My judgement is based on both pre-season and the first few premiership games. He's not really impressed me much at all. He definately is good at crossing the ball but he is very slow off the mark. When he's in full flight he's not too slow though. He frequently turns his back on opponent when being attacked by the opposition wingers and this is a suicidal thing to do as a full back. And when he does go forward, he doesn't get back quick enough. I do however thing he will improve when we have Mascherano back. I just have my reservations.
Deggen for me is a player who could succeed on paper going of his track record. Injuries have clearly disrupted his career as has being at Dortmund. He's super quick and direct - 2 traits which are most ideal to the premiership. He also has very good control and is pretty skillful. He's barely played for us and to be honest he really is up against it. With Deggen it's a sink or swim scenario. He will either become a fantastic acquisition or a massive flop. Unfortunately, the likelihood is that it will be the latter.Last edited by saj; 26-08-08, 02:04 PM.My kebab comes with chilli sauce

Dossena was getting skinned by Alliadiere (sp) he looks the biz in attack unsure about defence, Carra was really barking out the orders to him
I'm unsure if any of the signings will actually takes us to the summit of the Premiership, the weaknesses are still there (the attacking players, the full backs). We come not to play.

It is just my opinion based on what I have seen since Dossena made his debut. His overall game just does not look good enough IMO. Gets caught out of position way too much.Originally posted by Reece View PostI can't believe people are writing off Dossena after two Premiership games. I know it is a knee jerk reaction to write him off so soon but in all honesty my absolute gut feeling is he will be a disaster. Hope he proves me wrong and everytime he plays I am 100% behind him of course, but I am just giving my honest opinion.
I would replace him with Aurelio at LB asap."Its not about the long ball or the short ball, its about the right ball." Bob Paisley

This is a very good assessment and really has hit the nail on the head.Originally posted by Imy View PostDossena was getting skinned by Alliadiere (sp) he looks the biz in attack unsure about defence, Carra was really barking out the orders to him

With reference to your first point, it was painful to see Alliadiere rip Dossena. He's hardly Thierry Henry but he is very quick and is quite skillful. And why did he get ripped? It was his pace and the little skill he has. Dossena is just not quick enough. When he runs, its like watching the John Barnes of the mid 90's. Just imagine what Cristiano Ronaldo could do to Dossena. But as I mentioned earlier, Mascherano should provide him with good backup. My kebab comes with chilli sauce

A legend in the making if you ask me .. he gets caught out of position becuase he is a attacking wing back and needs cover its the nature of his game .. he is the best supplier of the ball into the box that we have at the club right now and for some years if you ask meOriginally posted by looprevil View PostIt is just my opinion based on what I have seen since Dossena made his debut. What, since Bjornebye?Originally posted by Nicey View PostA legend in the making if you ask me .. he gets caught out of position becuase he is a attacking wing back and needs cover its the nature of his game .. he is the best supplier of the ball into the box that we have at the club right now and for some years if you ask me
I am trying to take the piss there but I've been watching a lot of the matches from the 90's on LFC.TV and have realised that he was a decent player. He was a steady player who had a very good delivery on him - a typical Rafa player. But the reason why he was never really rated by us (us being LFC supporters), was because he wasn't a typical Roy Evans player - a typical Evans full back was Rob Jones, then McAteer and then Heggem all 3 of whom were attacking full backs with pace and skill. Neither of them were great crossers of the ball (Heggem wasn't too bad).
