    Urban myths

It can't be helped but there's a lot of it about. So the song goes and I have a quick question concerning one of the myths rising out of last years performance.

Many posters state that Cissé scored most of his 18 goals for us last year playing as a RW and not as a striker.

    Cissé:

As far as I can remember he only scored 6 of the 21 goals as a RW and only 4from open play? I'm not saying that this is gospel and I would like your input.

    My real question is this:

How many of the 23 goals last season did Gerrard infact score from the RM position? I would really like to know tbh. The 7 goals in CL was all from the CM position, if I remember correctly. That leaves 16 goals unaccounted for. Can we figure this out together?

    Gerrard:

I think it's important to know just how many goals Gerrard did infact score from the RM position last year.

    Regards

Momo, Xabi and Gerrard must play. The only way to accomodate this is to have Gerrard on the right. Quit this crusade already

      Bob.

I would like to know the answer though

But the answer proves little. Goals are not the only indicator of performance. The amount of chances he creates from wide play is equally important! Not to mention how attacking play is dictated when he's wide etc. etc.

Rafa is an utter nerd and has all the stats you could imagine to hand. He knows what he's doing. By all means discuss tactics, positions etc but this high level look at things ultimately proves **** all.

The only ways that we can play Gerrard in the middle, are if we drop Alonso, do we want to do that? or if we play a five man midfield, which means either 3 at the back or 1 up front. I don't like one up front, so it'd have to be 3 at the back I think, probably with wing backs.

But for the time being, i'm happy for him to play on the right.

Ultimately you're absolutely right. I agree.

But for Forum purposes it is very handy when some **** states something as an absolute fact. Like:

Cissé scored 21 goals for us last year even though he was played out of position.

            Or:

Gerrard scored 23 goals last season. Most of them came from the RM!

            You know what I'm saying?

The 3-5-2 with Riise at the left side and Carra at the right could be an option if we get a player like Alves to take care of the right side.

I would probably drop Alonso away and Momo at home as things are right now. Then thrown them on if needed during the 2nd half.

                .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

Thanks but it doesn't matter anyway.

It is all pretty futile tho, last season was his most successful in a red shirt so Rafa obviously knows what he's doing. He saw something that a lot of managers wouldn't, and it got us a brilliant goals return, so I hope he stays out there, unless we had a five man midfield, then i'd be happy to see him drive forward from the middle.

Steven is alot less selfish on the right, and, especially as he is misfiring at the moment, this can only benefit the team IMO

I'd keep Momo and Xabi in the middle, fullstop

That is the point! You hope he stays "out there" because you take for granted that he scored a lot of goals playing in that position.

7 goals in CL - All from CM.

16 goals left. Maybe he scored 8 playing at RM?

What's not to get? It's stated above that we got a "fantastic goal return" from Stevie playing RM. Nobody seems to know how many. Would you consider 8 goals a fantastic return? Or 15 from CM an even better return?

Citizen sounds very much like Arctic Monkeys, no?
