Liverpool have today confirmed Fernando Torres suffered a hamstring tear during the Reds' goalless draw at Aston Villa on Sunday.
The Liverpool striker limped off during the first half of the match and has been forced to withdraw from the Spanish squad for their forthcoming World Cup qualifiers against Bosnia and Armenia.
"A scan this afternoon has confirmed a hamstring tear in Fernando's right leg. He is expected to be out for between two and three weeks," said a club spokesman.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’
That means he will miss the United match, the Marseille match, the Stoke match but could be back for the derby on September 27th.
Gutted.
To be honest, we should be able to beat Stoke at Anfield without him and away from home in Europe Rafa knows what he's doing, we'll have enough to get a result out there.
Missing him against the mancs is a blow though. No question.
Yep, he would have been rested against Stoke anyway to be fair. He will be badly missed away to Marseille as well, but the thought of being without him against the Macs is heartbreaking.
A hamstring injury is always the most worrying type of injury for a player that relies on pace as well so its worrying times. If he is touch and go for the derby I would be tempted to leave him out. We rushed him back to play Arsenal last season and he limped off after 15 minutes. We shouldnt rush him back and make the same mistake again.
