i said FIRST. we needed width more than a back up striker for something that may not happen.Originally posted by red g View PostSo when Torres is injures and Babel is not match fit you happy with Ngog leading the line?
anyway when torres is injured and babel is not match fit we did have ngog leading the line - not that i was happy with it.

Which is the reality. I'd be more than happy with crouch leading the line, saving the 9m net from the Keane purchse and buying Riera with it. Dossena and ngog(as backup) from new funds, or keeping Voronin as backup and sticking ngog in the reserves for a bit.Originally posted by red g View PostSo when Torres is injures and Babel is not match fit you happy with Ngog leading the line?

after torres , mascherano...well i thought the bar for quality signings had been set.still satisfied with keanes aqusition...but for a position we have been crying out for a top class signing ...riera is a dissapointment. Just shows now that we have to resort to basement buys AGAIN. Hugely worrying this....FCUKIN YANKS!!!!

Who where u thinking of as a left sider who was a genuine winger and available?Originally posted by flyboy View Postafter torres , mascherano...well i thought the bar for quality signings had been set.still satisfied with keanes aqusition...but for a position we have been crying out for a top class signing ...riera is a dissapointment. Its harsh to call him a disspaointment when u havent even seen him in a red shirt. I for one am genuinely excited by this guy, I have seen him play once in the uefa cup final and watched loads of youtube clips and from that believe he will be a fantastic signing_____________________________________

I once heard a crazy rumour once that not every player we're interested in wants to join Liverpool and sometimes the clubs just don't want to sell! Now I'm almost certain that no member here knows exactly who we have made enquiries about over the summer as I believe there are still some deals broached out of the glare of the world's media.
The outs I can understand and yes, I am optimist so I think the players in will make us a better team.
Dossena: Good going forward, excellent cross on him, is still getting back to full fitness after injury I think so will soon get up to pace defensively.
Degen: Still an unknown quantity for the most part. From what I saw of him pre-season he's quick and attacking but I haven't seen enough to judge his defensive or technical attributes.
Keane: Has the ability to be a fantastic player for us and should help by taking some of the load from Gerrard's shoulders allowing him to revert to more attacking midfielder than second striker.
Riera: I haven't seen a lot of him but we were crying out for someone in his position. Another YouTube superstar but I prefer to see him play for Liverpool before I make any judgments.
Now I know we aren't winning any fans with our football so far this season but I trust that things will click soon and the goals will flow (for us). Next game will do for me.

Dossena can be great for us, he can deliver a good ball is strong and isn't a pussy. Just a matter of him getting to know the system and and playing games.
Degan, no idea, haven't seen enough of him to make any judgement. From what I have seen he looks very attacking, I would imagine he would get games at right wing for us.
Keane is a class player and it's just a matter of time before he starts doing what we know he can do.
Cavalieri excellent buy, someone I've got confidence in if he had to step in for Pepe.
As with Degan I haven't seen enough of Reira, I'm hoping he can add a bit of creative play in the final third. If not Babel, Keane and Gerrard should be able to supply enough to see us do well.

just the good onesOriginally posted by Johnny View PostDo any of our players meet your ludicrously high standards?
first team
reina, carra, agger, skertl, masch, gerrard, alonso, keane, torres
squad
aurelio, babel, yossi
see from my not so ludicrously high standards we're two full backs short (although dosenna may develop) two wingers/attacking left/right forwards short and a back up striker short.
if all you dream of is top 4 then our squad will compete, it all depends on your personal expectations i suppose.
would you like to add to my first team of 9 that doesn't even come close to making up a formation never mind filling 11 places?
5 years in and we are further away than ever, riera is nothing to get excited over even if your expectations are in the gutter. just try and show me a formation with our best players in and honestly tell me its good enough.
i don't mean to be this down early in the season johnny but we haven't even got anything resembling a first 11.

We replaced Riise/Aurelio with Dossena.
We replaced Kewell/Babel with Reira.
We replaced Finnan/Arbeloa with Degen.
We replaced Crouch with Keane
We promoted El Zhar.
Keane is back up to our lone striker Torres.
Kuyt/Gerrard have done decent jobs at RW.
You completely dismissed all our new players(except Keane)plus Babel,Kuyt,Benayoun,Aurelio,Arbeloa and Lucas at the start of the season and say we only have 9 1st team players.
Jesus man, your the most pessimistic man I know.Last edited by Johnny; 03-09-08, 03:41 AM.
