Have to disagree with you on this mate. RVP and Rooney are more suited to the wide attacker role than Keane. They have lot of attributes which make them effective when they play there. They can run with the ball at pace, dribble past players and deliver good crosses. In RVPs case he has played as a wide attacking player for holland as many times ( if not more) as a striker.

If you look at Keane's strengths he is comfortable on the ball and can go past players but he is not exactly a dribbler. Keane is all about sharp clever movement, flicks and quick incisive passing : not exactly the sort of person you want to stick out on the wing. Just because a forward likes to roam on side of the pitch does not mean we should stick him out there as a wide player.

Like I say give it time to gel. Let's see where we Keane ends up being deployed, let's not assume because he played there for 30minutes before we signed a new winger and while SG was out, that that is the be all and end all.

And whos to say that the team as a whole wouldn't benefit from Keane being out there. Work's for Rooney and Manure, and I really don't think you have a crystal ball to know whether it will or not even IF it is pursued.

Like I say, you need to realize that our performance is not dictated by a single point in time (i.e. the 30mins that Keane played on the left), it's a continuum and the dynamics are already changing.

But I really don't think you can abide to admit that can you. Your mind is made up and your gut instinct is to instantly dismiss anything that does not support the position you've now become wedded to.

Have to agree there. Rafa has been a bit handicapped now with players in Olympics and Stevie and Torres injured. It will be interesting to see which formation he plays around October.

Kudos to you for at least giving it some thought Have 5

I admit RVP was a bad example.

My point is not so much that Keane should play on the left just that sometimes players have to play somewhere for the overall balance of the team. Rooney is played out of position to achieve this and his performances suffer, but if it works for the team, then that is what is important.

if keane ends up anywhere other than playing behind torres then its a waste of 20 million as far as i'm concerned. there should not be any where he might play conversations or experiments - robbie keane is a striker we should play him as one.

If Keane ends up playing anywhere other than where it makes the team most effective then it's a waste of 20m.

              Can you see the difference?

no. keane's a 20 million pound striker we should play him there. why over complicate things?

That's called dogmatism. It's rarely a good thing. Contrast with pragmatism.

So you'd rather play Keane up front and come 4th than on the right and come 1st. That's kinda the logical conclusion to your train of thought.

Things become complicated when players get injured and others are just back from a major tournament. When everybody is fit we will have no need to play Keane on the wing.He played there to fill a hole.Reira has now arrived and Babel should be back to his best soon therefore negating the need to play Keane on the wing.

the point is that we don't think keane will be effective anywhere other than up front.

rage, rafa played keane on the left to do a job there, simple. now we have reira in the squad i doubt very much we will see him out there again ok?

im sure you will still be able to find plenty of other reasons to slate rafa though, it seems to be your main topic of posting

All very well and good, but we had two real wingers sat on the bench.

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."

Babel didnt look fit during mid week, also I dont know if El Zhar is ready to start such a big match away from home yet, specially out of position. If Rafa had of dropped Keane for El Zhar I can just imagine the slatting he would get as well over that.

Doesn't Zhar play on the right though if moved out wide, he's a striker too first I think? The thing is Benny can play either side, Pennants fit (I think) but disregarded. We also had Aurelio sat on the bench who is naturally left sided.

We had width ready to distribute, just chose not to use it.
