    uh oh.............

Well this is a very unsatisfactory state of affairs !.

You know , I read a lot of stuff about how much we spend but yesterday blow that rubbish out the water. 30 odd mill on berbatov , 32 on robbie boy.

basic fact is we cant spend that much money on one player , or if you look at chelsea , scum etc how many 25-30 mill players have they bought ?

top draw purchases , or lets say very little risk purchases.

(well , most of em )

I dont even want to think of city in a year or two.....

while we scramble about haggling our rivals drop 30 million bids like they are pocket change.

we are buying ford focus types and our friends are buying 6.0 liter supercharged GTO's with borla catback exhausts and kooks headers....0 to 60 4.2 seconds , nigh on 600 ponys and probably hit 200 mph quite easily.........sorry , i digress.

Anyhoo , am i the only one slightly worried by this turn of events ?

ot really we are only a couple of players short now imo
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

Thats where football and especially the Premiership is headed, in bygone years the likes of Wolves, Stoke, Huddersfield, Blackburn were the super powers of he English games whats to say in the future we're not in their current positions and the likes of Chelsea, QPR and Man City the super powers?

What the transfer window shows us is that we need even more emphasis on producing our own world class players because we certainly won't be able to afford them very soon.
      We come not to play.

I'm just glad the window is shut now!!
On the positive side City will be taking players that Chelsea and Man U would normally be buying, just like Robihno

The soul of football is slowly being taken out by the corporate world of money-making. Very little is left to the community and the feelings involved.

I would love to see some sort of regulation on football, either from the governing bodies themselves (very unlikely as UEFA, FIFA, PL etc. etc. are money-greedy devils themselves), or perhaps by national governments (EU) if that is possible. I think the american system of a wage-loft on the clubs, so that a club can only spend a certain maximum on wages for players, which would level the playing-field. Also some sort of fund, where a certain amount of a clubs income goes to local / national development, which should be a proportion of its income.

Would help get a bit of the socialism back in to football, and leave investors from being able to make huge profits of it.

I reckon we might have been able to compete if Rafa thought he had identified the right player (and the board agreed, unlike the Barry saga). By my reckoning, we had £18m to spend on Barry, but decided not to. Subtract the £8m for Riera, add on the £2m for Finnan and we've probably still got £12m or so in the kitty.

Pennant had a move agreed for £4m yesterday but couldn't agree personal terms, and we rejected a £14m bid from Arsenal for Alonso, holding out for £16m.

If Pennant had gone, and Arsenal had upped their bid for Alonso, we probably would have had £32m in the kitty to spend. Maybe that is what the rumours were of a late bid for a player if everything fell into place at 11pm last night?

I know it's all ifs and buts, but we should still have a decent kitty still left over from this window. If the right players are available then I'd expect us to be busy in January.

Thing is a wage cap would lead to even higher transfer / sign on fees.
              Oh I don't know.

A cap on that could be set as well though!

"It is not the most expensive players, but the right players"

                    26m - Torres
                    30m - Berbatov

                    Who would you rather have
Those that hid Anne Frank were breaking the law.
Those that killed her, were following the law.

Both! They would make a partnership based on complementing each other rather than duplicating each other......And sometimes, the right players are very expensive.

thing is, when we have splashed out on a big money player recently (Torres and Mascher, will leave judgement upon Keane until end of season) we have seen the difference it makes to our game, we are generally buying top drawer proven international talent. If anything, buying the cheaper value players (such as Voronin, pennant etc) do in a strange way seem to be a risk as we know we're not getting first choice, maybe not even second choice and therefore there is a question mark as to whether they will work out (ala say Pepe, Skrtel, Agger, babel, Arbeloa) or disappoint (Kuyt, Voronin, Carson, Pennant, Kronkamp, momo, lucas)

We're always a couple of players behind...

I must admit, yesterdays events have worried me. Is this beginning of the end for the EPL?
