            narrow football

Liverpool have been narrow for a while now and even though Sky imply that width can only come from natural wingers a la Quaresma, I saw an interview with Rafa where he said we couldn't get those wingers, so that he was going to get his width through attacking FBs. Hmmm, I thought, so I looked at Chelsea, Arsenal and Manure and lo and behold they don't have Quaresma types either. They use the full backs to get width.

I saw the game against Villa and you know what, I saw Dossena and while he was in and out of the game he definitely added width he must have got 5+ crosses into the box. Maybe he'll be more consistent once he works out the correct balance of attack/defense between the CH and DMs.

Apparently, Degen is a similar type player, will be interesting to see if he can add similar on the right.

            hoof ball

Dogma vs. Pragma. Some times the hoof ball is the right ball.

playing players out of their natural positions

Another thing I've noticed is that Rafa is always looking for ways to deploy players to get the best out of them for the team. I love it when he chooses to play SG "out of position" as an AM and SG proves him right by getting 20 goals and 20 assists.

It's the same as Torres, at Atletico he played the Rooney way, dropping deep to collect the ball. Rather than follow the Dogma Rafa gave it some thought and decided to mess with how he played, told him to play off the shoulder, stay high and goal side of the ball. Well that messing around certainly paid off. He got 30 goals in the much much tougher PL.

reliance on two players to win him games

Because of how he plays Torres and SG out of position they've been winning a lot of games for us. Which is a good thing, but I also like the fact that he can make changes late on in games and make match winners out of other players like Babel for instance. He's been a matchwinner more than once when brought on late in games. Who can forget how he won us the CL game against Arsenal.

Hell, he even made a matchwinner out of Lucas in the derby when it looked like the usual matchwinners had petered out.

And Kuyt in the CL last year. How many matches did he win us?

oh and most definitely his interviews. come on just play a houllier post match crap performance interview back to back with rafa's latest.

I've seen some similarities between interviews given by Rafa and Houiller, no suprise really if you lose there is really only so much you can say and anyway in general most football interviews are just a repetition of the same tired old cliches. What I will say that is when we play crap, Rafa does at least admit it. Houiller never would.

i don't have an anti rafa agenda i have a pro liverpool one by the way
In response to the narrow football: Man Utd have Nani, Giggs, Park, Ronaldo who are all natural wingers. To say they play narrow is ludicrous. Yes, the odd time they will cut in but most of the time, you will see them stuck to the line. Chelsea play a very different system. Their wingers are easily adaptable to play as either inside or outside forwards. Arsenal have Nasri and Eboue on the wings. Eboue will hug the line, Nasri will float about but Arsenal is a case of they are very adaptable and comfortable in playing anywhere on the pitch because of the way they are coached.

In response to hoof football: Sometimes, I agree the hoof ball is the right ball depending on the position of the defensive cover of the opposition. I have seen Man U and Arsenal play low percentage balls which do work out. We seem to play them all the time. Sometimes I feel playing a 'five' in midfield is a good thing.

In response to players playing in unnatural positions: Gerrard didn't play out of position last season. Tactically, its his best position against weaker teams. Against the bigger sides, the opposition outwit Rafa and Gerrard is easily nullified. In regards to Torres, yes he played in either a wing position or the second striker role. If you were to talk to a lot of Spanish journalists (especially Guillem) they would have told you a long time ago that his natural position was centre forward so to think that Rafa unearthed this talent would be silly to say.

In response to reliance of two players: We look like a mid table club without both Gerrard and Torres. There was no way in a month of Sundays we would have scored against Villa. I still don't think with them we can score against Utd. We need more matchwinners. No one has stood out for me. You might say Babel played a huge super sub role but from I remember, he only did that once last season against Arsenal. In other games, we were coasting.

i told u i have a pro liverpool agenda. i'll still be here long after rafa and his paella belly have moved on to talk the talk somewhere else.

width does not come exclusively from the fullbacks, comparing our width to chelsea and utd is silly they actually have at least one midfielder that can play wide.

the hoof ball may sometime be the right ball but every game so far this year its been practically every ball.

gerrard and torres are exceptional players, no doubt they'd do well in any position - still doesn't explain a 20 million pound striker on the left and a failed 10 million pound striker on the right and **** knows what position lucas was playing.

i was at the champions league game vs arsenal - we got lucky scoring immediately after walcotts goal. i have never seen something like that before by a liverpool team. i also remember that rafa had to play 4231 and stop ****ing tinkering upto that game because it had cost us in every other competition. oh and when has he played torres out of position?

houllier won more than rafa and before the end i couldn't stand his style of football. i feel exactly the same way about rafa. i wouldn't lose any sleep if he was gone by xmas.

Mate, deal with the individual points you raised and I refuted on the basis of FACTS. FFS my belly fluff makes a more compelling case than you. Would appreciate a a reply to my post, point-point where you identify what's been said that is not true.
