Nobody is saying that it's 100% guaranteed, but it is FACTUAL that in the majority of cases, the top players cost big money and that £6m signing are very very rarely world class players.

If you dont agree with that, then there's no point in debating with you, as i'd be better off trying to convince someone that water isnt wet.

Personally, if £200m later and still no title challenge isn't really good enough. Rafa's transformed the youth set-up for the best and we've got some real good young players coming through

However, for me, after 4 or 5 years in charge we've still only got two match winners in our team and when they are out we don't look like winning a game. We had a good formation towards the end of last season but we've changed it again to a type of 4-4-2 but we don't have any wingers to play it (until Reira signed).

I still think if we don't play with wingers and Gerrard and Mascher in the middle with Keane and Torres up front we wont win the title

When Rafa is backed in the market he buys quality players.Either the yanks will continue to back him or DIC will come in and buy us the bestest players in the world.

If you want a pedantry pissing contest then lets have it:

Torres: 1 great season, no medals
Tevez: 1 seaon of failure, 1 decent season
Mascherano: Failed at WHU, 1 decent season
Essien, Ronaldo, Rio, Drogba: I'll give you
Rooney: Over rated
Berbatov: Scores fewer than KUYT

You can't judge players as good value after 1 season, sorry, but that doesn't stack up, especially if it was a trophyless season.

Of course the better players will cost more, but we can't afford to go pissing 20 million here there and everywhere on the off chance that we'll sign a Ronaldo and not a Reyes. We cannot afford to take that gamble, SCUM and Chavski can.

Before you go quoting Torres and Mascherano, remember you were originally talking about wingers. Who is this mythical magical 20 million pound player that we could sign who is going to be as effective as Torres and Mascherano, because, for the life of me, I simply haven't seen him play.

Benfica pulled the Simao deal at the very last minute because they were not willing to take the fans backlash for selling him. He was actually on the plane to LFC.
We've never put in a serious bid for Alves that I recall, I think you've fallen for the internet rumour trick

our £120 has been spent on overturning the squad...whereas Man U's has been spent on quality additions to the first team.

Theres no point in comparing the two.
