there is no ronaldo the show pony.

both rooney and tevez look far too fat (did anyone see tevez playing against paraguay when he got sent off - he looked like a right fat chunky little ****er) and i just cant bring myself to talk about his neck or lack of.

berbatov is a moaning whining whore.

we need our captain to step up tomorrow and show us the fearlessness that he had 5 or 6 seasons ago when he always played well against united. Full backs pushing on for fun, alonso running the centre of the park with masher tidying up everything in behind.

Torres to give rio plenty of problems and riera to have a debut to remember.

That would be the ideal scenario with us winning 3-0 Torres, Gerrard and Babel. I think a draw is more likely.

Tears for Torres as tear rules him out

by Ben Blackmore, 12 September 2008

Tears for Torres as tear rules him out

Fernando Torres has been ruled out of Liverpool’s simmering showdown with Manchester United, leaving Rafa Benitez to find a new way to beat a team he has never conquered in The Premier League.

Torres tore a hamstring against Aston Villa and never looked likely to make the Anfield encounter, but his absence was finally confirmed by Reds chief executive Rick Parry on Friday.

Writing in his regular column on Liverpool’s official website, Parry stated: “Our league record against United has been poor in recent times and so we've got to put that right, despite the absence of Fernando Torres through injury.”

Parry went on to state that Steven Gerrard is still a major doubt (groin), leaving Benitez with a massive tactical headache come Saturday.

Does he field a midfield three of Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso and Lucas Leiva in Gerrard’s absence? Does Yossi Benayoun move inside behind Robbie Keane? Does Keane find a new strike partner in a 4-4-2? Or does Albert Riera start left and Ryan Babel right in a front three?

The only thing that is certain is that the Spaniard must change a horrid record against United, a record that has seen Benitez’s Reds never score a league goal (barring a John O’Shea own goal) let alone a league win.

They have not scored in the last seven league encounters home and away, and United have beaten Liverpool nine times at Anfield during the Premier League era – six more times than any other club.

Can Robbie Keane change all that with his first goal? It’s unlikely. The Irishman has never scored in 14 league starts against The Red Devils.

The game could come down to a good old-fashioned shoot-out between two former Tottenham idols, Keane is already drinking at the saloon bar in Merseyside but now Dimitar Berbatov has stepped through the shutters.

Knowing Sir Alex Ferguson’s bold management style, United’s £30 million man will debut in a forward three at Anfield – with Rooney perhaps drifting left.

Ryan Giggs is doubtful, as is Michael Carrick, while Owen Hargreaves continues to nurse his knee problems.

United start the day one point behind their most hated rivals, but they know victory at Anfield would shatter Liverpool’s belief that they are getting good results despite a string of poor performances.

This fixture has thrown up endless controversy over the years, red cards for Paul Scholes, Andy Cole, Dennis Irwin to name just a few, goalkeeping howlers from David James and Jerzy Dudek, and unexpected moments of generosity – like when The Kop threw Gary Neville a mid-game snack or when Wayne Rooney offered a fan his mobile phone.

whats the big shock anyway, it has been obvious for two weeks, you can't risk people who have problems with their hamstring

and even gerrard with his injury, united's midfield never stops running, is it wise to put him in unfit?

alonso and mascher do well together and theres lucas as back up too, its simply not worth risking the long term futures of our 2 best players just for 1 game

This is from the Rick Parry column on the website - isn't this taken from the LFC magazine which was out Tuesday - this could in theory make the article about a week old!!!

I'll believe that Fernando and Stevie are out when I see it!!!

according to the official they've both had a competative training session behind them, so that's very good news! i think they'll at least make the bench.

Seems incredible that we haven't even got lucky in any of them, even to score a goal, it's a crazy stat, crazy, and not a true reflection on all the games as far as i can recall.

Players who hardly ever score, let alone against us, have chosen this fixture to do so, and late in the game too, but i can remember us both being as bad as each other in some of these games, neither side really dominating, but the Scum getting a late goal from the likes of Sylvestre or O'shea, ****in heart breaking, surely it's our turn for a little rub of the green in this fixture.

Thank **** Ronaldo is indeed out for this, but Tevez, Rooney, Berbatov are bad enough, i wonder will Anderson play against Xabi in mid, has he played much for the scum lately.

We'll soon know anyhow, may any luck, God, fate, be on our side.

That is correct. Scored the first goal of the game which they eventually lost.
