    Alonso

Would like to give the lad a big hand for behaving like a true pro and a great man.

Many footballers would have chucked their toys (Robhino?) at the fact that they were being pushed out of the door.

But he has worked his nuts off and shown exactly what he has to offer.

    Respect

    Agree with that mate.

I wouldn't have been against swapping him for Barry in the summer but he's shown first class professionalism and he's always been a very good player.

Was great to see him back to his best against United, having Mascher beside him really lets him play his own game.

In hindsight the whole barry/alonso situation could only have been good for us whatever way it worked out. If we had signed Barry then we would have a player who would have given our midfield more balance and we would have a great premiership performer. But with us not getting Barry it seems to have given Alonso a kick up the backside and he now seems to be playing back at his best. Hopefully he will carry on playing as well.

I wonder if Rafa saw it the same way....

Barry was excellent last night as well, pity we couldnt afford to have both of them in the team.

don't think alonso ever need a kick up the backside, maybe Rafa needed no option but to play him

Barry was outstanding last night. Xabi at his best is sheer class but proclaiming that doesn't mean it has to be to the detriment of Barry.

I think the fact that he has been injury free for the past few months has more to do with it.
If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

the only way we'd buy barry now is if we sold either masch or alonso. i'd much rather see us prioritise a right sided midfielder and even a right sided fullback in the january window

                            Xabi is a true pro.

Does anyone think he could afterall stay at Liverpool beyond Jan or next summer?

I know him and Rafa are on dodgy terms but hopefully there's a way back for him in terms of a long term future at Liverpool.

I got a feeling Degan will be playing there (right midfield I mean). But I think Kuyt is going to be playing the majority of games for us so he'll be our primary right sided player. I do think Arbeloa is our 'weak' link but saying that he played well enough against the mancs. I think the squad is quite solid through out with plenty of options / cover in most positions, plus the youth team has it'sprospects. For a change I don't actually want us to buy anyone and just let the squad set.
