He isn't rubbish, but he was ****e last night. He has good technique and would be better suited in a team that passes and moves more than us.

He does have nice hair though so keep him

Another thread descends into loonacy after being hijacked by radish. FFS, every single time. It's clear he's not playing well, I agree but he's a kid FFS. Give him a chance, just back him, no back every one of our lads that wears the shirt. It's not gonna help him if everyone starts having a go. Certainly didn't help voronin with all the boo boys.

I think people over look his contribution a lot of the time. For me the player he should be compared to is Gilberto in the Arsenal 'Invincibles' team, picking the ball up and keeping moves going all the time and switching the point of attack. No one really noticed him but he was the perfect foil for Vieira and knitted that team together for me.

Lucas has a better passing range and a better 'engine' (for want of a less ****ish sounding phrase) so I think he will be a big asset for us.

He just needs a run of games. When did he last start back to back games?
I think a loan deal in January, for the rest of the season, at somewhere like Bolton or Wigan will do him the world of good.

Lucas is a quality player and will prove that. This is his first game back since the Olympics (where apart from his sending off he had a very good competition) He's not a defensive midfielder and I think in time he will move further forward on the pitch and be more attacking, eventually taking over the Gerrard role when his legs start to slow. Really some 'fans' on this site should shut the **** up and back the team instead of slagging them off all the time. You make yourself look like fools with your reactionary remarks about Liverpool players. Show some respect for ****s sake.

im not convinced this lad is going to be the player we thought he would be. Last night Jim Beglin said he was a liability and i have to agree with that.

His tackling is poor and his movement is non-existant. He seems to want to play the game in second gear and always looks a yard short. This is a big season for him and at some time the excuses about him have got to stop.

Its time lucas showed us why there were so many teams so eager to buy him.

No, you really shouldnt pay so much attention to the commentators

He wasn't a liability because he played that badly, it was because he got booked and was then having to be extra careful about making challenges.

Signed a new deal with City today though.

i think it was to do with both factors and not purely because he was on a yellow.

Marseilla dominated the midfield and i accept that masher wasnt up to his normal standards because of the man u game, lucas didnt really help him either.

I dont think he is a central midfield player and apart from one good game against newcastle when we won 3-0 at their ground and one decent goal against havant and waterlooville (i think) he hasnt really done anything else of any note.

I hate to agree with rashid but selling guthrie for 2.5m or whatever it was and buying lucas for 6m seems like a waste.

Again, the time to judge will be at the end of this season but im not holding my breath.

He may be young but he cost £8m and at that price you have to live up to expectation sooer rather than later. Whilst he has not been poor in every game he's played, I think I'm right in saying that I've not seen him have a great game yet. In fact I struggle to remember him having a very good or even just plain old good game.

To me he seems to be fairly average in most games he plays, and though he puts in a shift I would expect the same standards from virtually every other midfield player in the premier league.

He's played in 44 games now and with that amount of games under his belt I would have expected to see at least a few glimpses of promise.

He still has time, but I think his time is running out. Still, one good game and we could see a dramatic change in his mindset. But I have thought the same of many an ex LFC player, be it Cheyrou, Le Tallec or Bellamy. And before anyone moans, I can think of at least one performance from each of those players which is better than any Luca has had so far.

I notice Marek Hamsik at Napoli is about the same age. We were rumoured to be in for him in the summer, and according to Marcotti on Talksport today, he is already one of the best five box to box midfielders in the world.

Having not seen much of Hamsik I could not really comment, though I would probably say Marcotti is going a bit overboard with his praise. But it does show you that Lucas should be showing a bit more than just average performances.

Had he been a youth player coming through I'd proably give more slack, but this lad cost £8m and is a full Brazilian international and after 44 games I would have expected to see a lot more.

Lucas reminds me a bit of Murphy. Scratchy sort of player early on but then sorted his head out and came on leaps and bounds. Hope the lad does well.

He is a class act that lad.

Lucas is 5 months older than Fabregas and six months older than Messi...

Now I know players develop at different rates but those two have shown that ages isn't always a factor...As DannyMan said, he still has time...
