    6pts!!

ok the season hasnt started brilliantly to say the least!!

BUT on the other hand we have now played 3 of our hardest away games in Bolton, Everton and Chelsea and we are only 6points from the top.

We have had by far the hardest start and we have lost some tough away games but apart from scum and arsenal they were our hardest

Chelsea, Scum and Arsenal have all dropped home points, we havent yet and they have all dropped points in unexpected places.

I just wonder if Rafa after our latest loss may start playing with a more settled side. Remember he tried one up front it never worked and he changed it. The man is not infallible but at least he recognises faults.

It is quite amazing that we're only six points off the top of the table and it's the one thing I'm clinging on to to keep me positive. But just imagine if we'd ****ing won today (which we would have had that **** linesman not got busy for nothing)...we'd have been THREE points off the top of the table!!

The title is somehow still absolutely winnable; we've just gotta get our arses in gear away from home.

Like all reds once again we are relying on others to **** up......but this time they are!!

I think this year is the best chance chelsea, arsenal and scum are all in transistion(as we are)

I believe we can win it this year but only because of the inadequecies of others!!

It's shaping up for a tight season. No team has really got going yet. Hopefully we can be the first to set off on a 100% record starting at the toilet.

First positive post of the day. Woo hoo. Off to get some beers in.

Yeah everyone keeps intimating our next game is away at Scum....our next away game, yes, but like Kurtangle says we've got Blackburn at home on October 14.

Blackburn home then Scum away with an international break before them.

And already Chelscum away, Bolton away and Bitters away (again after an international break)

And Maurinho has the cheek to say that the FA set the fixtures against chelscum.

We are riding out a difficult fixture period and just about hanging in there.
The key will be how the opposition copes when they have simmilar fixtures back to back and if we can put a few runs together when we have better runs of fixtures.

There's a long way to go yet.

Yeah it certainly aint over yet. We have a good chance to get a long run together after the utd game - like we did after xmas last year.

I don't think things are that bad TBH. True, we were 4 points better off last season after the Everton and Bolton away games, but there is reason for optimism.

As red g says, we are only 6 points off the lead after a fairly ordinary start. But we ALWAYS start off bad, don't we? 6 points is definitely regainable over the course of the season. Perhaps part of the problem is that it has been our defensive players that have been the better ones - players like Momo, Agger, Finnan and Riise.

But I'm not too worried. Players like Alonso and Gerrard will not play as far below their level as they are at the moment all season. Gonzalez has been in and out of the team through injury, and I think he could be a big player this season for us. His crossing was superb versus Spurs, and he has already scored 2 goals. If he can get a decent run in the side then I think things will happen for us. As for Bellamy, I'm not too concerned on that also. I remember at the start of the season him saying that it usually takes a while for him to get going, so perhaps his form is just symptomatic of that. He'll come good, and Kuyt will get better. The only one that concerns me is Pennant. If he has more than two touches and tries a short pass, he normally loses possession, and his crossing is hit and miss. Some great ones - like versus Gala - but some dreadful ones, like against Chelsea. And he never looks like coming in off the wing and scoring, like Gerrard and Garcia can do.

But we have reason to be optimistic. Players like Pepe, Gerrard, Alonso and Bellamy will not keep their current form all season - form is temporary and class is permanent, and all that.

Kuyt and Aurelio will improve as the season progresses and they bed in. And when Gonzalez gets a run we will see just what a fantastic player he is. Agger has shown he is a great defender also.

As long as we can sustain the results at home and get SOMETHING from the Arsenal and Man U games then we will be ok.

We've made a pretty mediocre start but anyone who says we are out of it doesn't know their footballing arse from their footbaling elbow. we are only 6 points off chelsea with 31 games left. Had Chelsea made a great start & been 10 or 12 points clear then things would be very different but they didn't.

6 points is not a massive gap, its bigger than you'd like but not beyond us. remember we have to play Chelsea at home so the gap could be down to 3, so how can we be out of it. We must not however, fall further behind. Between now & say Jan/Feb the gap nust not get any bigger. If we can keep pace with Chelsea until then, then a crack at the title is a possibility.

If you consider goal difference, we're more like 7 points behind.
