I really do not understand why Rafa, after buying Keane, won’t play Gerrard on the right. Like Kuyt he has, pretty much, endless energy but brings goals and creativity with him unlike Dirk I’m not having a go at Kuyt here, I actually like him, I just think he should play where he was bought to play, up front - well back up to Torres and Keane now.

A midfield of Riera (skill) Alonso (passing ability), Mascherano (bite) and Gerrard (see above) should be able to out play any midfield.

What a disappointment this game has turned out to be. I really thought he would send the troops out all guns blazing considering where we are in the league but to play that formation with Torres up on his own has shocked me. I can understand going to the San siro and set up like this but Man city FSS. He needs to change it to 442 in the second half and bring on Keane and Bable. But we all know he will not change it.

That first half showed why finnan shouldnt have been sold, he is just as solid as arbeloa and was one of our best crossers of the ball.Arbeloa has got in so many crossing positions this game and season and his delivery has been simply rubbish.

It also shows our poor creative play I said all summer a winger should have been our priority,Kuyt out wide is simply not good enough,he does not have the ability to play out wide for a team like us, hard work should not be viewed as an asset to a footballer that should be natural, Kuyt does not have the football ability required to play for a top team imo.

arbeloa is scared of crossing the ball, he doesn't have faith in his own ability. attacking fullbacks my arse. i'm sure someone will come along and say we were unlucky rather than well beaten so far.

same old problem positions cost us year in year out and they will continue until either rafa changes or he is changed.

Why - it worked really well in the second half of last season. I might have done the same. It has obviously not panned out this time.
