    Arbeloa

    I like him.

Solid defensively, decent passer, confident on the ball and a genuine threat going forward, as evident with Torres' first goal this afternoon. He's really making that right back slot his own this season, I doubt Degen will get a game.

How much did Arbeloa cost again ?

Puts the eight million we splashed out on Dossena to shame.

He's looked good this season IMO

Firstly it's far too early to be making bold statements about Dossena. You'd have written Evra off as **** then, in his first season? Dossena has been here five minutes.

I like Arbeloa too. I was a fan right from the off but became extremely concerned with his performances in the very early stages of this season. He was garbage. Thankfully he's turned it round. I feel he needs to be kept on his toes though. I'd briefly forgotten about Degen actually, but we need someone to put pressure on Arbeloa.

I think we paid £2.6m for him - a total bargain.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

        He's very hot and cold.

Can look world class and mediocre during one game.

I like Arbeloa, he has the attributes needed to be a top full back, just need to sort out his awareness and positioning at times.

It's a position that we can look to bring in some one I think. We've got a very very good bench, Agger, Masch, Babel are all players that should be starting and yet they have been kept out on merit, a full back of that quality on that bench would take us a long way to being the real real deal.

Eight million is a massive amount to spend on a left back. It's natural that he'll get judged straight away.

Of course I'll give him time, but at the moment I don't think he's an improvement on Fabio Aurelio, which in my mind, makes it a pretty bizarre signing.

We paid six million for Dossena. BTW.

And he'll come good. He's a defender who looks mental, he's nailed on to be a success.

Solid player. He will need competition and so will Kuyt on the right. We tried to offer Degen back to Dortmund already as part of the Kuba deal. Dont know how true that is though. Srna would be a great addition in January and he could play both positions.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful

It's always difficult for a defender to come into a side and start playing well straight away. Look at the aforementioned Evra, and also Vidic.

£6m is alot of money for a fullback, but we can afford to give him more time.

As for Arbeloa, has proved to be a bargain. Noone had a clue who he was when we signed him .

As Rage so elequantly pointed out in the match thread, he could improve his crosses from wide positions, but he makes lovely runs, passes it around nice and tidy and he celebrates goals in the way that I would if I played for Liveprool. He can be sloppy (first goal today) and he gives away far too many daft fouls in our half. Overall though, he's a quality player and a bargain to boot.

i like the lad, defensively he is solid, wish he'd have the confidence to cross more but he is looking sharper the more regularly he's been played.

he'll never be a ramos or an alves but at he will hold his own in most situations.

I've been thinking that too. Dossena looks absolute sh*t right now, and you can bet your bottom dollar we didn't buy him unless there was more to him. I'd rather have a player that's absolutely sh*t (Doss, Evra) or absolutely hot (Riera, Torres) in their first season rather than someone steadily mediocre.

Once Dossena settles in, loses some weight and gels then he'll out perform Aurelio - who I think is OK but there's not much more to come from him.
                            One tit for another.
