    Atletico stadium ban

Club Atlético de Madrid have been handed a stadium ban for three UEFA club competition matches by the UEFA Control and Disciplinary Committee, following incidents at the UEFA Champions League Group D game against Olympique de Marseille on 1 October.

    €150,000 fine
The ban for the third UEFA club competition match is deferred for a probationary period of five years meaning that if Atlético progress to the knockout stages they could be allowed to return to the Vicente Calderón. Atlético were charged with a lack of organisation during the OM match, which led to crowd incidents, and for the improper conduct of their supporters. The Spanish club were also fined €150,000 for the offences. Consequently, Atlético must play their next two home UEFA Champions League matches in a stadium situated at least 300km from Madrid. The two-match stadium ban will apply to Atlético's games against Liverpool FC on 22 October, and against PSV Eindhoven on 26 November.

    Aguirre ban
Meanwhile Atlético coach Javier Aguirre has been banned from carrying out his function for two UEFA club competition matches. The ban applies to the home match against Liverpool on 22 October, and the away meeting against the same opposition on 4 November. Aguirre was punished for conduct during the match which was contrary to the provisions of Article 5 of the UEFA disciplinary regulations (click here). He will not be allowed at an official event during and after the match, or in the tunnel, technical area or dressing-room. Any communication with the team is also forbidden. Appeals may be lodged by 17 October at 12.00CET.

Good for us but not for Torres.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

i agree that it is good for us as far as winning the game (which i appreciate is the most important thing) but it is incredibly short notice for fans to rearrange their travel

Seems a bit retarded to me. They weren't organised enough at their own stadium so we'll give them 2 days notice to move to another stadium at least 300 km away.

That should sort the problem out

Agreed this has a knock on effect for travelling Liverpool fans but its good that Uefa have taken action against racist behaviour of Madrid fans after Fifa have failed to respond. €150.000 fine is meaningless while this at least sends out the correct message. The Madrid police harassing the Marseille fans was bad enough but refusing a police escort for the team bus which was then attacked is completely out of order. The fine should be directed to compensate Liverpool fans who have to cancel pre booked flights. Alternatively Liverpool could gain some much needed PR by chartering extra flights and offering free seats to fans who can prove they have pre booked tickets for Madrid that they’ve had to cancel. What’s this likely to cost? £ 50 – 100, 000.

Is this a response to racism or "lack of organisation"?

Better than the joke of a £15,000 Euro fine Croatia received from FIFA!!

Both. The police treatment of the away fans and the monkey chanting of the Marseille players. **** knows where they’re going to play the match. They’re hardly going to switch a Madrid match to Catalonia and Seville are at home the next night in the Uefa cup.

Id be pissed off if Id booked my flights to Madrid. Fans are now going to have to take a long train journey to Valencia or Sevilla or Zaragoza or wherever else they decide to play this game.

Valencia Metsalla would be my guess of venue now I suppose, it fits the bill.

Velencia is in Catalonia and is just inside the 300Km Uefa have stipulated.

Madness to move a game by 300km with one weeks notice. Surely Atleti/ UEFA should have to cover the cost to fans.

Surely it needs to be OUTSIDE the 300km stipulation?

Borderline, Google Map has Madrid to Valencia as 350km apart by road, depends how they calculate it.

If not Seville seems the best bet, but its bloody miles away from Madrid. Those that booked their flights for the day of the game might not even make it in time. Disgraceful.

Velencia is borderline. Not as I suggested in Catalonia but Catalan and hostile to Madrid. Can't see Seville agreeing to host this 24 hours before they're at home to Stuttgart in the Uefa Cup.
