    the greatest current all rounder

just a quick point, i managed to silence a scum fan at the weekend.
we were discussing the qualities of an all round player when i asked him to name a player that you could replicate 10 times to make a team i.e.

    --------------any keeper--------------
    john doe---john doe--john doe--john doe
    john doe---john doe--john doe--john doe
    -----------john doe--john doe----------

and this got me to thinking that there really isnt a better all round player than gerrard. not only do we know he is good enough to play any position when asked he has proved most of them either for us or for england.
the lad i was chatting to made a feable attempt to fight the case for o'shea but failed miserably.

does anyone know of a player that truly can be classed a better all rounder than gerrard.
    in january we were doomed.

in august we will rise from the ashes of ****e and march on again

No. Gerrard is in a class of his own in that department.

Sol Campbell used to play up front for Spurs.....

Ray Kennerdy was handy around the park, so was Terry Mac.

Carra can play midfield and defence but couldnt hit a cows arse with a banjo upfront

Agree on Gerrard Was impressed on Saturday as well, he went right back for the goal kicks to go up against Kilbane in the air, he's not soft

Gerrad is the clear winner. I would say Essien would be quite Handy too.

I don't think Agger or Sergio Ramos would be too bad either

If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?

Kuyt would be an option for sure, essien is great but unsure of his goalscoring prowess, ramos is **** anyway. Viera would have done ok i guess but realistically youd have to say Gerrard would be a clear winner at present.

                    Reina?

EDIT: Seriously though, Gerrard is in a class of his own on this front. Only competitor for it is Essien, IMO.

Roy Keane in his heyday was as good as Gerrard in this role. No one else comes close, not even Kaka.

The mighty Tommy Smith was also well handy around the park and in fact did play up front, midfield and defence for Liverpool, I think he would have struggled on the wing a bit though.

Rooney? He could play the flanks well enough, has the ability to play centrally...but might fail as a defender i suppose, good in the air but prone to diving in.

Essien is a good shout, but would lack Gerrards abilities in front of goal.
