Joey Jones got a great reception when he came back with Chelsea. He came on as a sub. While he was warming up the Kop were chanting his name. When he came on the match was all but forgotten for a few minutes as he did his tradtional fist-pumps then started running around like a headless chicken.
I remember Aldo coming back for Sociedad in a testimonial game. The Kop laid into him when he missed his kick near the goal - all in good spirit of course.
There's a great shot on the Liverpool history video of Clemence returing with Tottenham. As he runs out towards the Kop it looks like every single fan has his arms up clapping.
I'm playing all the right notes. Not necessarily in the right order. I'll give you that, sunshine.

I think Garcia will get a fantastic reception at Anfield (which is onlly right and proper) but i was disappointed with his diving tonight.

I remember seeing the Clemence return on the Liverpool official video with John Motson as presenter in the late '80s.
You can see it 10 seconds into the following:

In the return match at Anfield Garcia had the ball and Rio came to challenge him but Garcia nut-megged him and embarassed him and smugly responded 'Welcome to La Liga!!!'
            Love that guy... love him....

When did he say that? A few minutes later or did Luis leave the ball, speak to Rio then catch up to the ball after?

It goes to show how poor we were in terms of attacking / flair players to be holding Luis Garcia up as a 'hero'.
Massively frustrating every single game with snippets of genius during his time here but hardly genius material.
I hope he gets a great reception because that's our tradition as the best fans in the land but lets not go overboard.

i was very disappointed with garcia tonight, paticularly the incident when dossina muscled him off the ball and garcia went down as if he had been punched in the face, rolling around in agony

Agreed, some massively important goals, the important thing is that he wouldn't get anywhere our starting 11 now imo. Would be used as an impact sub at best.

To be honest, although he was important to us at the time, I echo Birdman's thoughts and I'm glad we've moved on. He wouldn't even get on the bench for me, these days. He was woeful last night.

Look forward to his return though - he deserves a terrific reception.
Thanks very much for being ‘This Mornings’ Farmer’

Glad we've moved on but I'd rather that Luis than Yossi. Neither are good enough though.
