if i remember we used to do that a lot with gary mac - he pratically chipped it to the near post were someone would be to flick it on, simple but effective.

Ay, that's right. Gerrard got one in the Cup v Tranmere like that, late run into the box, met the flick on with a thumping header into the net, Bob's your uncle..

Gerrard scored against Villa towards the end of the season running near post from an Alonso corner and sidefooting it in. He is better attacking a corner than taking one.

That should be just one of a variation of routines though.

ay I agree howard - that should be the basic routine - done 7/8 times out of 10, practised religiously in training so it's there all the time, we should only worry about any variations when can actually get one simple/basic method working.

Correct PTP. You are also right Howard. But how nervous are you when we are up against it and the opposition are forcing corners all the time and whipping them into the 6 yd box. I dunno about you but I'm sh1tting myself. Glacing headers (off forwards or our own defenders), goal mouth scrambles, rubbish punches by Reina.

Also, when it's in the 6 yd box you don't see the defence rushing out much as they're all petrified about clearing the ball, which leaves loadsa room for a Riise, Gerrard, Alonso to have a shot when the lame arse clearance comes out.

                Riise

Let Riise whip them in from the right and Alonso/Pennant from the left(inswingers). Put Crouch near post, and Hyypia and Carra in the mix. Gerrard outside the box.

Sound a bit like FM2006 (2007 out soon BTW...), but it COULD be that simple really.

Case point about our lack of success from corners:

When was the last time Hyypia scored from a corner, using his head?

He used to be good for 3/4 a season when Houllier was around....

(Not that I want us to go back to the Houllier regime, but maybe he had a better idea regarding Corners than Rafa does....)

We have one problem only with corners and free kicks. That is steven gerrard. we let him take them. We only look dangerous from set pieces when alonso or aurelio take them

It's probably the fault of zonal attacking.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.
