Riera has impressed enormously and the refreshing thing about him is his natural instinct to really attack the wide are and look to beat the full back. He has really given the team more options and has been our best signing this Summer. Long may his good form continue!!

I must admit I too was worried when we signed him. I remember someone told me that he was good in the air, and I was thinking something like "finally we're signing a winger and he is good in the ****ing air?" h:

From the first touch you could see he is a quality player. He's got a great technique and as you say he can only get better because it looks like he's not quite used to the tempo as he often goes missing in the 2nd half.
Mystery is at the heart of creativity. That, and surprise.

Reira has been great so far - if he was a little bit faster, he would be absolutely frightening. Although the fact that he isn't super fast has probably been a major contributing factor to him developing his excellent close control and general tricksyness.

Class player. His slight lack of pace isn't a critical hindrance because most of our attacks are organized and require players who are quick thinkers and have good control in tight spaces. Riera is ideal for us.

I'll add my voice to the chorus.

I've been very impressed with Riera so far. Like others I didn't have high hopes for the guy based on his City days and what I'd read about him but he he been excellent since his arrival. His close control is fantastic and I love the way he shields the ball with his body and emerges past two opposition defenders when it looks like he has lost the ball.

He has given us great balance on the left hand side. Let's hope his promising start continues. If it does he will become a key player for us.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

I'll let you know I have a lovely singing voice.

Just a pity they won't let me on the X Factor since that 'incident' a few years back.

                        Oh the irony.

Riera has been very good. Your posts are better when you stick to the topic and leave out the point-scoring.

Fair play, he's been great. Let this be a lesson to us all that more often than not, Rafa knows best.

On the pace issue, to be honest I dont think he lacks pace. Pace isnt his strong point, but he's no Beckham. Ive seen him in a straight race with a full back a few times now and more often than not he's come away with the ball. He's obviously not the quickest, but he's quick enough. He's also very good at using strength to hold off a player.

His close control is absolutely top class. Some of his touches are just out of this world. He's needed no time to settle at all. Really, really excited to see how he develops over the season, but I think he's going to be a key player for us.

Looking at the side now, it has a lovely balanced feel to it. If I was being critical, I dont think Keane is giving us enough at the moment, and there are still question marks over our full backs - Rafa's first two signings of the summer and neither are first choice.

Shaping up to be an excellent season. Where have the anti-Benitez brigade gone??

Wait until we lose our first game, and they'll be back in their droves!!!!
