    Post match thread v A.Madrid

Decent second half from us, Agger was proberly our most dangerous man !!

We diden't create enough tonight, and I think a draw was a fair result.

The penalty was never there, and we should be happy on that account, however we did get robbed from one in the first half...

We created plenty. We had 22 shots to their 4. We're just not taking our chances and it's becoming a bit of a habit. Not one of the front 4 deserve any credit at all. The platform the CMs gave us was awesome and we just could not make the most of it. AM must have left their own half only once or twice during the 2nd half.

SG 5 shots none on target
Keane 2 shots none on target
Kuyt 2 shots 1 on target
Riera 1 shot none on target

Add in El Jefecito with 3 and none on target, and it's pretty clear where the problem is.

I didn't even bother celebrating the equaliser. It was rather desperate and pathetic that Gerrard would resort to a dive so we could score. To see Gerrard clench his fists in celebration at the end shows how relieved he was. I thought Atletico hung on and had the boot been on the other foot, we would have said it was a game which had a brilliant tactical approach from Rafa before the equaliser of course.

For us to contest for the title, we need to have strength in depth in the squad. Our subs included the inexperienced and uninspiring David N'Gog, the puzzling Ryan Babel and the unfathomable Lucas Leiva. Says enough to me.

I thought our shape was all over the joint. The difference between Keane and Torres is that Torres is mainly, I say nine times out of ten, is around the 18 yard area or parallel to that area whilst Keane is everywhere else, running in channels, running in deep which is all well good however when we need someone to finish a chance, Keane is either too tired to finish or not there and we have to rely on Kuyt to finish. Kuyt for me was coming in too narrow to get the ball and was making it extremely difficult for Arbeloa to get to the byline as he was getting doubled up by Simao and Pernia.

Jesus Christ, were you ticking them off on a word table as they happened.
Don't know whether that's impressive or slightly unnerving

But does illustrate how poor we were with our shots.

I think it depends on what counts as a chance. We had as you show shots at goal, but very few of them where actual chances. Loads of half chances, and a couple of real chances, but IMO we diden't really create many big chances tonight.

Ref was shocking ... Very Happy with that result .. really looked like we were going to drop all 3 points there and worse still suffer back to back defeats ... all things considered .. we still are in good shape

Deffo a pen... the lunatic almost snapped poor SG in two!

Think we more than enough to deserve the draw

And just to re-inforce the point the stats for the Spurs game were:

Alonso 3 shots none on target
SG 6 shots 2 on target
Kuyt 4 shots 1 on target (and what a shot it was)
Riera 1 shot none on target
Keane 1 shot none on target

The reason for the results is right there.

i don't remember ever seeing a game where one centre back should have got a hattrick and the other one had our best shot on target.

the absence of torres aside and the failure of keane as a lone striker its took me a while to figure out why we're failing to create as much as we were recently. for me riera needs to go back to playing wide. when he first came he played as a conventional winger and this created space, he also has the ability to beat his man all day long. riera in a 4231 is not as effective with kuyt on the other side with the very average keane upfront on his own.

I don’t feel sorry for Atletico and I’m not embarrassed by the penalty. The Kop sold it and the ref bought it. Happy days!
                          Another MASSIVE game

Not a convincing penalty but the idiot jumped into Gerrard and since stevie got their first its a foul

That result will do me, we are basically 1 point away from qualifying with 2 games to go. Happy we didnt lose at home against another good team and now hopefully get Torres back ready to go on a nice long winning run in the Prem

Oh well, Saturday we were robbed, today we did the robbing.

"If Gerrard continues to play up front, leaving this lack of creativity and intelligence in Midfield, the season WILL be over by Xmas."

I still don't think we'll finish in the top 4 this season."
