Torres should be fit for the Baggies

Can't wait for the guy's return. Another international break coming up again soon. Hope we tell Spain to take a hike and leave Torres at home. 3 injuries in 18 months whilest away on duty

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez has said star striker Fernando Torres is almost certain to make his comeback in the Premier League clash with West Brom at Anfield on Saturday.

The Spaniard has been missing due to a hamstring strain for six matches since the last international break on October 15.

However Benitez is confident that the 24-year-old goal-getter will return against the Midlands side.

"I believe Torres will be ready for the West Brom game at the weekend," Benitez, who allowed his player to judge whether he was fit for the midweek draw with his previous club Atletico Madrid, said.

"It all depends on Fernando: he was not happy with his fitness so he did not play against Atletico.

"He said he was not confident, so you cannot take any risks with a hamstring injury.

"I will talk to the player during the rest of the week to see how he is after each training session. But I will also talk with the physio and the doctor for their view.

"But [once again] how Fernando feels will be the key."

Reds captain Steven Gerrard, who grabbed the penalty equaliser against Atletico, cannot wait to see Torres back in action.

"Hopefully Fernando will be ready come the weekend - we have missed him," he said. "He has been training all week and things look hopeful.

"We need to take three points against West Brom, but (Saturday's 2-1 reverse to Tottenham) has been our only defeat this season and we are more than happy with the way the season has gone so far."

If Torres again fails to make the squad to face West Brom, Liverpool must decide whether to give him a run-out in the Carling Cup trip to Spurs next Tuesday, with a tough trip to Bolton on the Saturday, November 15.

Another international break is approaching fast with Spain having a home friendly against Chile at Villarreal on November 19.

Benitez has been in talks with the Spanish FA over Torres's treatment while he is with the national squad and a set of special exercises have been drawn up for him to carry out each day to help the hamstring heal properly.

Just whether Liverpool will tolerate another Spanish call-up for Torres at this time is open to debate, considering he has returned three times in 18 months from international duty with the same injury.
Me, I’m either planning a holiday or I’m on one.

I'm wondering if this injury could be a blessing in disguise. We have done fairly well without him, still joint top of the league and almost through to the next round of the CL.
One thing that's for sure, our Fernando wasn't 100% and firing on all cylinders at the start of the campaign, probably due to him being back late because of the euros.
Now he's had a month "rest" and hopefully this will benefit him for the rest of the season, my god when he returns to form the other teams should be ****ting themselves!!

I really wish he didn't have to go on international duty. Having the special exercises to do?? what's that about?

Don't they have a team doctor / physio guy to make sure the players are doing the right thing?

It's time we stopped taking **** from national teams and withdraw him from stupid friendlies.

If I'm not mistaken, if we say he can't play and they complain, does Torres have to sit out the next match or something like that?

Mancs have done it, quite blatantly, for ****ing years. Wish we would too.

              True

The reason why Anderson didn't go last time: undisclosed...

I'm pretty sure Torres won't play in the friendly in November though.

aye pondus - all things considering, we have shown we can cope without torres for a few games - obv you want torres to play every game but that is never going to happen - but if you look at our results without him

                  Man Utd - won 2-1
Crewe - won 2-1 (not really bothered with that tho)
                  Wigan - Won 3-2
Atl Mad away - draw 1-1 (should have won)
                  Chelsea away - Won 1-0
                  Portsmouth - won 1-0
Spurs away - lost 2-1 (how we lost i'll never know)
Atl Mad - draw 1-1 (lucky with the pen but got a draw we deserved imo)

Thats not a bad record considering.

                  played - 8 - won - 5 - drawn - 2 - lost - 1

plus notable wins against the mancs and chelsea!

Now imo with haven't been firing on all cylinders and of course we have missed torres, what team wouldn't! - but we have coped and we haven't rushed him back which I was pleased - when he picked up the injury there was talk of us rushing him back for the chelsea game, we have played 3 more since then.

We are still in a great position in the league, and no danger in europe and we are yet to really get going and have a fit torres tearing it up.

Agreed, we've said this before - blatant cheating from Utd and it's another reason to hate them but their league record doesn't lie.

It's time we followed suit - if he plays this weekend he'll get called up, simple as that.

We've done well without our best striker, but we're still lacking that player who can kill games off and especially in the last two games.

I'm glad Torres is getting some "rest" - he had a hell of a season last year and when he's got a couple of games under his belt I expect him to bang the goals in for us week in - week out once again.
Mystery is at the heart of creativity. That, and surprise.

dont play him on saturday, we should win without him.

Claim he is still injured and withdraw him from the spain squad

To be fair he owes it to Liverpool to make himself unavailable for Spain this time.

Or pull him off after 75 mins (when we're 3-0 up) and say he has a groin strain....
