So if you're talking the Premiership Mountain then Kuyt would be pretty high up, relative to the summit. If you're discussing the World Footballer Mountain then Kuyt would be further down the slope because the summit is higher.

However, if you're discussing the "quality mountain" then you're assessing where any player might be on that. Being higher quality, Torres is at the top (or at least above) Kuyt. So Kuyt can't be at the top and therefore isn't, by definition, top quality.

    I'm a bit bored.

    good explanation though

    bored myself

bring on 5.30 and a 5-0 thumping of west brom
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

I might have a snooze so I can be fresh for kick-off.

Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I think Kuyt is the one of the best players in the world for the job Rafa wants in that position.

Yep, Kuyt is around the top but not quite at the summit

I thought today showed why he cant be played up front... I think he is the worst finisher of any striker we have bought. Obviously cant compare to Dundee (who never played), or Mad Erik (who never managed a shot).

HE works hard, but is wasted against teams like West Brom. He offers very little in an attacking sense. We would have been better having Babel out on the right, or off of Keane. Or maybe the French lad. OR that Egyptian bloke, or even Gerrard wide and Alonso on (we certainly have many "possibilities")

I think it is one of the reasons we score so few, as it is very difficult for us to get in behind on the right, even though the majority of our play comes down that side.

I for one think we should save Kuyt for away games, and the tough home games.

Can see that point, although I disagree to some extent, I don't think Kuyt is that bad a finisher and in fairness, coming from that wide position his contribution in terms of goals this seasn has been fine. Sometimes soliditity rather than flair, even against the weaker teams at home, is a good thing, in the end it makes little real difference whether we win 2-0 or 5-0 as long as we get 3 points. Also, with Torres in the side Kuyt's finishing deficiencies are somewht negated by having the best striker in the world alongside.

Also, the bit I highlighted, do we score "so" few? I make it one less goal than ManU with a 1 better gd, and the important thing of course, 9 more points.

Kuyt was sublime last night. My man of the match.

he can be very frustrating at times also - poor touch and takes a shot too early at times.

good game and works his bollix off.

He can but I think his good points far outweigh the bad.

Everything he did yesterday was spot on though. His first touch was lovely, chose the right pass at the right time and knitted everything together nicely.

dont think there would be too many complaints though if he were sold on for say 15m and a decent right winger was bought ???
