    Skrtel back for Xmas?

    Anyone got an update?

So what happens to Agger/Carra when Skrtel is fit again?

Agger has been playing really well of late and full marks to him
for making Rafa's decision even more difficult.

With Sami and Carra still in contention and Arbeloa, Aurelio, Deggen and Dossena in the mix, we're certainly not short at the back.

I've seen threads and posts about the possibility of

    Agger playing Left back

and personally I would love to see him there with Carra and Skrtel in the middle to see how it would pan out.

He looks great going forward but not to sure about his pace to get back defensively in that position.

    Or Carra playing RB...
Thanks for the memories Rafa - YNWA!

Its a very good dilemma for Rafa, I personally think Rafa will play Skrtel away from home in the more physical games whilst Agger plays the home games when teams park the proverbial bus as he can play as a sweeper.

Why is there such a need for playing people out of position? Agger is not a left back. We just spent 8 million on a left back, have another one who is currently playing and a young player who is allegedly going to be great, so why the talk of playing Agger out of position at the cost of one of these?

Whatever happened to players fighting for their place?

Maldini was a left footed centre back.

I also think Agger is good enough and versatile enough to be considered for more than just central defence if needed but I've never played in defence myself so I wouldn't know how difficult it would be to adjust to the change of the game there.

I suppose at a time when we have some consistency in the squad though, now would be a bad time to make changes like that.

            Just trying to accomodate everyone.

Maldini was a LB - he has played the majority of his career there. It's only now in the last few seasons that he has started playing at centre back

Skrtel was at supporters meeting last night and said he wont be back for prob 4-6 weeks maybe longer....he was untouchable before he got injured personally would like to see Carra RB, Agger n Skrtel in middle with Arbeloa LB!

I think there is a real argument for playing three at the back when Skrtel is fit again. I know, I know, but hear me out.

First, who are our best ten players? I'd suggest:

Gerrard, Torres, Mascher, Carra, Alonso, Kuyt, Keane, Reira, Agger, and Skrtel

Second, what are our weakest positions? I'd say quite clearly both our fullbacks are our weakest positions.

Third, Rafa has always been fond of playing two holding midfield players.

Fourth, One of our biggest problems in selection in attack this season has been how to accommodate Robbie Keane with Alonso and Mascher. Right now one of those three players has to be dropped or played out of position to play either 442 or 4231.

Fifth, What formation accommodates our best players in their best positions?

                    -------------Reina-------------
                    -----Skrtel---Carra---Agger----
                    ------------Mascher-----------
                    Kuyt--------Alonso--------Riera
                    ------------Gerrard-------------
                    -------Torres-------Keane------

Okay so you have Gerrard in a truly free role. Wenger said Kuyt played as a FB in our CL tie against them last year; and he has the energy and determination to play as a WB. Everyone else is in their strongest position. In Mascher we have truly one of the best holding midfielders in the world who is quite capable of covering, especially with Xabi's help.

I really think this formation could be quite successful.

I hear what you are saying matey but I think Kuyt and Skrtel may be a little exposed.

why is Pepe walking off to his right leaving the goal unguarded, he's good but not that good ;-)
This city has two great football teams – Liverpool and Liverpool reserves
