    Spurs build up thread

    From .no

Mike Riley will be the referee when Liverpool travel to London to face Spurs on Wednesday. Linesmen are Peter Kirkup and Philip Sharp, while Mick Russell is the fourth official.

Riley have been in charge of two previous LFC matches this season, the 2-1 victory over Boro, and the 2-0 victory over the blue****e.

Gerrard is unlikely to travel to London, as he will get a much deserved rest. Players likely to feature are Cavaliero, Hyypia, Degen, Pennant, Lucas and Babel. Arbeloa may play as well, as he is suspended for next weekends PL match.

Insua, Plessis and El Zhar will not play for the reserves today(?), and they are likely to get a run out in the league cup as well.

"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

Hope that Rafa palys with the reserves.

Also I really wish that we could get a glimpse of Nemeth, Pacecho or Flora...

Nemeth is injured, not sure what is happening with Flora as he hasn't even featured for the reserves has he? And if Pacheco didn't get a chance in the last round against Crewe I doubt he will against Spurs. I do think it is a big shame Nemeth is injured though as I could have seen if getting a game.

i'd love to see the likes of insua, ngog, el zahr et al get a run out. in terms of experienced players i'd only have hypia and maybe pennant, lucas and babel. the rest should be kids imo

don't care if we lose with these kids playing and experiencing 1st team football. spurs will take it seriously but then their aspirations are a lot lower than ours.

still a pretty solid reserve side we'll be sending down there.

                      So then, maybe:

                      Cavalieri

                      Degen
                      Arbeloa
                      Hyypia
                      Insua

                      El Zhar
                      Lucas
                      Plessis
                      Pennant

                      Babel

                      N'Gog

Rest all the "first teamers" for Saturday.

hmm yes seems ok, but Ngog upfront doesnt inspire me with much confidence, he does seem quite lightweight. Would prefer if Kuyt got a game instead. But knowing Rafa i wouldnt be surprised to see Torres start for us!

Good shout that pondus. Have a feeling either Carra or Agger may still start though, and I wouldnt rule out Torres starting either, he'll at least being on the bench as he needs a run out.

I think we have to give NGog a chance. If Rafa thinks he is worth a punt against Atletico then surely he has to think he is worthy of a run out against Spurs.

I really want us to win this though and the all out reserve team approach some are advocating seems likely in the end to minimise the chances of any reserves getting the chance to prove themselves in a relatively low pressure cup competition.
