get it... not going to happen like
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

            Arbeloa is a good player.

            So is Aurelio.

            Dossena will come good.

Degen behind Kuyt looks good on paper.

That sounds similar to what we have now, solid but not spectacular..so I wonder if the new owners gave Rafa a load of cash, would be spend it on full backs or somewhere else? I would prefer it was spent on an amazing attacking player like Ribery etc.

This "Rafa doesn't do full backs" is a new line taken by the media, trying to impose a pattern and so get a theme for an argument/article.

Top players in whatever position are few and far between and that's why they tend to cost a lot of money - so far Dossena is the only one who cost a biggish fee and not only is it too soon to judge him (tempting though it is after last night) but he also didn't cost as much as some. Rafa can spot a good full back - he was after Alves and everyone knows he's a pretty good player (and apparently all his crosses are 100% accurate ). The problem is we haven't been able to afford players of that calibre.
                .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

exactly - chelsea paid what was it, like £16m for Boswinga! - i've watched him a few times and for £16m ****ing hell seems well over priced - if rafa had signed boswinga for £16m he would have been raped on here.

But boswinga was probably one of the better right backs available so they had to play top dollar.

Arbeloa is fine at RB. So is Aurelio at LB.

Darby looks like a great prospect and I really hope he can break into the team by next season.

Dossena, well what can I say? He is the wrong type of player for us and is clearly not suited to the PL. In all honesty I would have rather we kept Riise.

Insua is decent enough but I doubt he can make it into our team.

So we are fairly light in the full back area, but clearly unless we are going to pay really big money on players like Alves this pattern of 6-7million pound full backs will continue until we strike oil!!

Aurelio is a good player. Some people are strange. Darby should have got a chance instead of buying Degen. Insua should have got a chance instead of buying a Dossena .

                      Simple really

yup, same here, at the moment Arbeloa and Aurellio are our best FB, but these positions can be improved upon, but we will have to shell out for it. The role of FB has dramtically changed over the past few years and the top FB are tremendous atheletes. But if you want the best (like Boswingwa, Alves, Rafhina, Lahm, Ramos etc etc) we would have to pay 12mill+ and quite simply we just dont have enough money to make this sort of purchase

Hmmm.... yet we can justify 20million on Robbie Keane? I am not so sure I agree with the transfer policy if that is the case.

I think this will be a stick repeatedly used to bash rafa with going forward. Understandably so tbh.

I think he was way overpriced. I'm not sure who was to blame for that, Parry maybe for his equisite negotiating skills? Spurs for being touch negotiators? Rafa wanted Keane, but who knows if he gave Parry a price and Parry just ****ed it?

But as some on here have said in the past some of the money spunked on say Dossena, Ngog and Cavellier (along with money raised through sales of finnan and JAR) could have been spent much more wisely on a top notch FB. Either that or give Darby and Insua a proper chance to develop.

Now that the rest of the team is in good shape with plenty of competition in most places, I really expect and hope to see us splash the big bucks on some more than decent full-backs.

But which ones are good enough for us and who could be available say in January or in the summer?
