Degen - the new Harry Kewell !!!!

    From the official site

Liverpool today confirmed Philipp Degen will be on the sidelines for four weeks after picking up a foot injury against Tottenham in midweek.
The Swiss full-back - who has endured an injury plagued start to his Liverpool career - sustained a metatarsal injury during the Carling Cup defeat and has been ruled out of action for the next month.

With Alvaro Arbeloa suspended for this weekend's trip to Bolton, manager Rafael Benitez is short of options for the right back position at the Reebok with either Jamie Carragher or Stephen Darby now likely to step in.

"It's a pity for Philipp because he hasn't had much luck with injuries so far, but hopefully he can come back from this problem quickly," said Benitez today.

"It's always a problem when you have two players for a position and one of them gets injured, and even more of a problem when the other player is suspended for a game - like Alvaro is this weekend.

"But we have options within the squad and we'll have to decide what we want to do for the game at Bolton."

Martin Skrtel is the only other absentee for the trip to the Reebok, with Benitez reporting no other fresh injury concerns following the midweek setback.

"A lot of players were rested for the game at Tottenham because they had been playing a lot of football, but they will be back this weekend," he added.

"They have looked sharp in training and will benefit from having a week free of competitive football."
Fernando Torres is likely to again get the chance to build up his match fitness after enjoying a one hour run-out against Tottenham on Wednesday.

"Clearly we need to be careful with Fernando and it was always the plan to ease him back in gradually," added Benitez.

"For the type of player he is, it will probably be a couple more weeks before he is back to his very best but the more time he spends on the field the quicker he will get there."
"All I'll ever do is all I've ever done in any job, and that's promise to fight for my life for the supporters and the people of the city"

Funny isn't? Deggen pulled out of the challenge with Gomes, who looked like he got the worst of it - stretchered off etc, but he'll probably beback playing before Deggen. Deggen is a ****house weasel and got what he deserved.

Wimps out of tackles and is a bit of a spice boy alright and is injury prone. Darby will hopefully get his chance at Bolton and show Rafa that he can rely on him.
Oh the man is a midfield maestro
and his passes are sooo delightful
          everyone wants to know

            Remind you of anyone?

Jellyfish are 97% water or something, so how much are they doing? Just give them another 3% and make them water. It's more useful

That is out of order and not true either.

Gomes went into that challenge wholeheartedly, Degen pulled out yet still left enough of his foot in to do the keeper. That's a weasel's act in my book

Oh Dhav man, no way did Degen intend to 'nail' Gomes. Your comments are out of order IMO.

Deggen went into that challenge making a less than wholehearted effort to get the ball. He pulled out. I was at the game and could see it as clear as day. If he gets injured as a result then he only has himself to blame.

Shaggy, I never said he intended to "nail" Gomes. In fact I expressly said the other day he didn't intend to injure Gomes. But he did pull out, he went for the ball very reluctantly. It was a cowardly challenge.

Clearly, I've worded this really badly and I can see that it's logical from those words to conclude I'm suggesting Deggen deliberately intended to do the keeper. I don't think he deliberately left his foot in to do the keeper and that is not what I meant to imply. I meant that he left a foot in and coincidentally it was enough to injure the keeper. It was causal but not deliberate. He should have pulled out altogether at the point when he decided to bottle the challenge. When I referred to him being cowardly I meant to the extent that he pulled out of the challenge and didn't go for the ball with wholehearted commitment.

I agree, he put the handbrake on, he could have scored himself or squared it to Xabi I think it was to roll in for 4-3.
Having said that there is no way he deliberatly tried to injure Gomes, that part was just an accident
The King was back for a short while. Long live The King.
