Benitez must sign first, says Reds star.

Alvaro Arbeloa claims talks over a new Liverpool contract will not begin while the long-term future of Rafa Benitez remains unresolved.

The former Real Madrid full back has been linked with a return to the Spanish capital recently, with speculation that Atletico Madrid are preparing a bid.

While Arbeloa insisted he had no news of Atletico’s interest in him, the 25-year-old has now entered the final 18 months of his contract.

His manager also finds himself in a similar position.

“I have a contract with Liverpool for another year," Arbeloa told AS. "We haven’t spoken about an extension. It is necessary to know first if Benitez will stay…

"It seems to be a little too soon to speak about that.”

While the Anfield career of one Liverpool player is open to doubt, Arbeloa insists the same could not be said of Steven Gerrard.

Spanish giants Real Madrid were linked with Liverpool’s talisman when Arbeloa was still a Real player but the Spaniard knows now that that bid was doomed to fail because Gerrard would never leave Liverpool.

“A while ago there was talk that Madrid wanted Gerrard. They can forget about that – he’ll never leave here.”

We need to get him, Kuyt, Agger and Rafa signed up soon and then concentrate on winning the league This is a big reason why it is so important that Rafa stays.

Wasn't aware of that. We have four contracts in need of sorting out quickly.

add that Gerrard and Carra will only have two years left in the summer. They will probably never leave but I would rather secure them on new deals instead of them having the chance to buy out their contracts even if that is very unlikely to happen.

It may only be a 0.1% chance or something like that but it's still a possibility.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

So basically, Gerrard gets up in the morning on a random summer day, flips a coin 7 times, and if he gets tails in all of them, he ****s off to Chelsea?

Or Pennant takes on a defender, goes round the outside and delivers a pin-point delivery to the head of Torres or Kuyt.

                  A possibility.

See that would count as one of the six impossible things this morning to get you breakfast at the Restaurant at the End of the Universe!"

i hope he does sign as i rate him and think he is a decent and consistant player.

why did he have to bring rafa into it??
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."
