To right, we have been plodding along nicely this year without Torres and Keane has played his part in it. Last year without Torres we looked clueless up front.

I'm very confident Keane will bag 15-20 goals in all comps this season, there's a long way to go yet.

He's still a long way short of offering as much as the 'flop' Cisse did in his both in terms of all round play and as a goal threat. Whilest it's good that people still have confidence he'll come good, he's a 28 year old striker bought for 20 million quid. That high risk and isn't not paying off at the moment.

The laughing on here when Bent was talked about at 15+ million was kind of understandable, but he's proving this season that he is a good goal scorer. While Keane may be more than just a goal scorer, he's not doing enough in general play to make up for his terrible showing in and around the penalty area.

Very well said. I'd quite like Keane to balance his "intelligence" with getting a few goals.

Also, is there a huge world of difference between the number of times Cisse or Keane are caught offisde yet Cisse got slaughtered for it!

id be willing to bet that at least 6/10 offsides are wrong due to the speed

and intelligent running of the striker versus the defender being slow and in

general facing the wrong way ie back to goal. three paces forward by the

striker against one back for the defender. i can understand why and how the

ref or lino can get it wrong and it bugs me

I always thought he was pretty good at making the runs. There was only really one I remember from Saturday and he was actually on side at the time.

I think there are two critical differences :

1/ Cisse had pace to burn. What in god's name was he ever doing trying to start his runs from where he did and why did he never look along the line?

2/ Keanes movement is far better and although he has been called offside a lot he has often actually been onside. In a more general point his movement moves defenders around far more and despite his relative lack of pace he is equally adept at pushing back the opposition back line making room for the midfield. He however combines this with the ability to hold the ball up to help make use of the space created.

Overall I think that Keane has contributed well to the way we play. However he does need to step up in terms of goal scoring. We have made a lot of chances and at some point will be caught out again (like the Spurs game) if we continue to fail to convert them.

This seems to be the conventional wisdom, but I think it's being overplayed. He spent the first half a dozen games running around like a headless chicken. All puff and no product. He has been subbed so often and a lot of the time, it was more to do with how bad he was than tactical changes. He's had a few decent games but his all round play has ben well below par and his finishing has been laughable in the main. No better than Bellamy imo.

I don't think it is to be honest. I'm not sure what the logic id but he was subbed against West Brom at the same point he usually is having scored two and played obviously well. I simply disagree about his general standard of play although it is plain for all to see that his finishing has generally been poor.
