Worse, seeing as one coke session can kill you whereas it would be fairly impressive to drink and absorb enough alcohol to kill you

Smack head, Coke head, really when it all boils down there isn't much difference. Both will cause you chronic health problems, both will cause long-term psychological derrangement, both can kill you whether taken as a one-off or over a decade.
Heroin can make you stop breathing, Coke can make your heart "rupture", both "side-effects" are pretty devastating

Think you're miles off the mark there mate. If you were just taking cocaine with no pre existing medical condition you'd have to snort a hell of a lot of the stuff you find on British streets to kill you but of course it can happen. At the same time though a hell of a lot of people die from alcohol poisoning. Neither if taken moderately and infrequently should really put you in danger.

Taking cocaine infrequently doesn't make you a "coke head" just as drinking moderately doesn't make you a "piss head". I suppose it just depends on your preconceptions of drugs as to whether you'd label someone in such a way and of course the right wong media loves such stereotypes.

No doubt some people become addicted to cocaine and it will then invariably lead to chronic health problems, mental and pyhsical, just as it would with alcohol, but the problem is how the individual 'misuses' the drug rather than uses it.

That's an interesting list compiled by independent narcotics experts and really shows that alcohol should be viewed as just as much a danger as other substances. Bear in mind the cocaine rating will include 'crack cocaine' use so the more pure form of the drug ingested nasally may even be classed as less harmful than alcohol.

Although there is an arguably interesting discussion to be had about the nature of various substances, I would suggest that it should be taking place in The Library and not in the context of a football thread. Unless I'm really missing something, people's comments about illegal substances are pretty much irrelevant in the context of a thread about Pennant being photographed having a drink aren't they?

If we must have this thread then it is most definitely on warning to (a) stay civil and (b) stay on topic please.
I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue
And I must face the men I slew.
What tale shall serve me here among
                    Mine angry and defrauded young?

Its a FORUM, therefore he's entitled to give his opinion as are you

Not putting words into DWW's mouth, but I would say he's appalled that people like you are still vilifying someone for having a drink outside a nightclub at the weekend

                      I think its absolutely ridiculous
Basically Fierce has summed up what I feel on this. It seems that it is being blown out of all proportion and opinions seem largely predicated on how people feel about Pennant in the first place.

Also I think the Didi comparison bought up earlier ti very relevant. I've read interview/pieces on him where it has given quotes from Liverpool and Man City players saying his is a poor trainer and everyone knows about his smoking. The fact is that people feel differently about how professional this is as he performed consistently and they like him.

As ever, you have a point mate.

The problem is that Pennant had alcohol problems. I don't see a problem when a player that don't have that drinks, but when a player that had problems before do it then the question must be asked if the problems started again.

It's very easy for someone that had problems to get them back even if they only drink one bottle.

Pennant shouldn't drink alcohol at all.
Just believe and you never know what will happen.

According to Benitez it's important not simply to go out to win but to go out prepared to win, which means players have to put in the same level of work on a daily basis. Anything else is unacceptable.

That's what you should've posted in the first place mate, rather than the 'oh is this thread still going' thing.

It's true though, if someone's doing the business, perhaps they've earnt themselves a little more leeway. But that aside, Didi Hamann didnt push his smoking thing in front of a camera lense. I'm not having a go at Pennant for drinking (i think if he drinks heavily, he's an idiot and wasting his talent), i'm having a go at him for being stupid enough to allow a camera to be shoved in front of him while doing it.

I think Rafa would have told him to find himself a new club and rightly so.

My point is not that it's excusable. I just feel a bit sorry for him.
