Definately not Barca. Probably Real. Real are big in the far east aren't they?

I've spent a lot of time in the Far East in the last few years and haven't noticed any interest in either Real or Barca to be honest. English football completely dominates as far as foreign leagues are concerned and they're only really interested in us and the scum

I don't think any one club can claim to be the biggest, there are a group of clubs that are up there, including ourselves, the mancs, milan by 2, barca, real, Celtic (apparantly Nike sell more Celtic jersey's in the US than anyone else's!)

I think Utd's claim is pretty pathetic as self praise is no praise and i don't think we should go down that road.

We're not with Nike so the Celtic stat would only matter if lots of teams were also with them

I was in Singapore recently and was quite pleased to see that Liverpool appeared to be the most popular club there. LFC jerseys were always more prominently displayed at the front of sports shops and an informal survey on trains, in the streets, etc. seemed to confirm that Liverpool gear was much more abundant than the other big teams' gear. I know it's a small country, but probably a bit indicative of the popularity of the club in the region.

Same in Thailand. We're comfortably bigger than the scum there - I'm a frequent visitor to family out there. My Londoner mate has lived there for years and he says that Utd's support could only be described as "reasonable"

What is the criteria for biggest club in the world? Historical success? size of fan base? purchasing power? value of playing staff? size of stadium? Global reach? share value? pockets of owner?

It's probably all of the above and more and therefore probably undefinable. I would say we are one of the biggest clubs in the world.

Considering out of the top half a dozen clubs in the world we are the only team that hasn't won our domestic title for nearly 2 decades we are mahaasive!!!

I would argue that we are infact the biggest.

Considering out of the top half a dozen clubs in the world we are the only team that hasn't won our domestic title for nearly 2 decades we are mahaasive!!!

I'll tell you the difference here - virtually no neutral observers would call US the biggest in the world, whereas plenty would say Madrid were.

Of course YOU'D argue that we're the biggest, because you're biased and find it hard to be objective about it.

With 7 billion people on the planet, 18 million fans worldwide is a realistic number based on criteria set by Kicker. We have fans in over 150 countries and more local fan clubs per country than any other football club on the planet. When you reach puberty, you may then understand what the club means to die hard reds all over the world and the size of it!

My idea of a fan might be difference to yours mate. Some bird thinking 'LFC are quite cool because Fernando Torres is pretty to look at' isnt my idea of a fan. Us having 18 million fans is about as likely as Tom Hicks having the new stadium built by Christmas this year.

I know full well what the club means, i spend about four grand each year supporting it and spend about 12 hours getting to and from most games, so you've nothing to teach me. I also know how many 18 million actually is, and how easy it is to count fairweathers as fans, in order to make a document or study look more impressive.
