Fed up Skrtel 'ready to quit Anfield and return to St Petersburg'

    More **** stirring....

Liverpool face losing Martin Skrtel after the Slovakian admitted he is struggling to adjust to life on Merseyside.

The 24-year-old defender is lonely and bored and would like to return to St Petersburg, according to his close friend, Zenit goalkeeper Kamil Contofalsky.
Contofalsky told Russia's 90 Minutes Magazines: 'I talk a lot to Martin on the phone and he said he would like to return to Zenit because it's very boring for him in England.
'He feels lonely there, doesn't have any friends. And also the local paparazzi follow him all the time.
'There's no such camera madness in Russia and Martin confessed to me that life in St Petersburg was better for him.
'But that doesn't mean he regrets his move to Liverpool. He made it into the main squad quickly and played top class football which is much better than in the Russian premiership.'
What do you mean it could've been anyone? Name me one person who's got a grudge against penguins

    Batman

    F*** off!!!

'Skinhead' Martin Skrtel loving attention at Anfield

Jun 25 2008 by David Prentice, Liverpool Echo

MARTIN SKRTEL is learning to live with the most unusual injury of his football career during his time at Liverpool . . . writer's cramp.

The Slovakian international arrived at Anfield from Russian side Zenit St Petersburg in January and has become an instant fans’ favourite.

But he admitted that his new-found fame had unexpected side effects.

“I have signed more autographs since touching down in Merseyside than in the rest of my professional career,” he declared.

“But, for the support I have had individually, and that we get as a team, signing some autographs is not a problem.

“I think because of the skinhead and my accent I am not too hard to pick out on the street.

“But from the bits of conversation I understand between us then I have to say that they have been amazing to me.”

Skrtel’s popularity is down to his no-nonsense defending.

After a nervous start as a substitute against Aston Villa then a home debut against would-be giantkillers Havant and Waterlooville, he settled down quickly and started 15 of the Reds final 16 matches of the season.

An injury which saw him limp off 22 minutes into the Champions League semi-final second leg at Chelsea was ultimately crucial, but Skrtel says he would never change his style.

“That’s just the way I play,” he added. “I am a defender and sometimes that means you have to put your body on the line to prevent the opposition scoring a goal.

“I like tackling. It is one of my main strengths. And yeah, I can hear the supporters cheering and getting excited when I go in for a 50/50 challenge. It’s beautiful to me to hear that the Liverpool fans appreciate what I do.

“It means a lot to me because these are early days in my Anfield career. To know that I have made an impact is pleasing because I am in a new country and playing a new style of football.

“The English style suits me. I enjoy physical battles with forwards and I have had plenty in England so far.

“I am sure over the course of my stay here in Liverpool, which I hope will be a long one, I will have many more.”
              We come not to play.

                Skrtel Loving Life At Liverpool

Tough-tackling Liverpool defender Martin Skrtel says that he already feels perfectly at home in Merseyside despite barely being at the club for eight months.

A long-term injury to Daniel Agger convinced Rafael Benitez to sign Skrtel from Zenit St Petersburg as cover in January and since then the Slovakian has managed to exceed expectations by striking up an excellent partnership with Jamie Carragher in the heart of the Liverpool defence.

Skrtel, who has been warmly embraced by the club's fans, told Liverpool FC's official magazine: "I picked things up relatively quickly when I came into the team in January, but you don't have the chance to train intensively during that part of the season.

"We were playing most midweeks as well as most weekends so you cannot do much on the training pitch except recover, keep yourself fit and focus on your next opponent.

"But this summer I feel I have settled more into the team", he added.

"Having a pre-season alongside my team-mates has been an enormous help. If I have started the season well then this is probably the main reason for it.

"Now I can say that on the pitch I am one of the lads.

"I am happy at Liverpool, I feel like I belong here. I feel that I have improved a lot since I came here and I will continue to grow as the season progresses."

Are there paparazzi in Liverpool? Apart from pictures of Gerrards and Rooneys birds I can't imagine anyone else being followed...Do we have any "OK" or "Hello" readers on here?!?

Can safely say that there are no pictures of Skrtel around other than him in a kit and from interviews. I quite fancy him. Its unfortunate, really, because I need some nice Skrtel for my desktop.
