Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

What would you be saying if we swapped records with Chelsea? I can just imagine: "It's over because we've dropped nine points at home this season," followed by the inevitable "this is what I'd have done - why oh why oh why can't Rafa see it would have been better?"

Then again it's easy to slag off your team when it's less than perfect and you don't have to deal with the real world.
So if Chelsea and United lose this weekend, then the title is ours by that logic :crossfingers:

Sure, I realized you weren't being serious or having a go. I just don't get it, that's all.

Is this the onset of age-related bewilderment?

I haven't slagged the team off.

Considering we've not even come close to challenging for the title for years or even kept pace with the contenders after December I don't think it's as preposterous as you say.

It's called missed opportunity. I know what you're saying but taking points off title contenders doesn't mean it's okay to drop easy points elsewhere.

I haven't got the records for the last two title holders but I'll wager they didn't lose many points at home to relegation fodder.

I would love to see Babel given a run up front, with Keane tucked behind. That really would be 'put up or shut up time' for both players, ie. playing in their 'favoured' positions against a team who are struggling to keep clean sheets.

                    Won't happen though.

Ultimately though it doesn't matter where you pick up points or lose them. What matters is whether or not you have more points than everyone else.

I do understand that drawing at home to newly-promoted teams makes people doubt our ability to gather more points than Chelsea and Man United over the course of the whole season but you're making two mistakes IMO: firstly, you're seeing a pattern where there isn't yet one (unlike, for instance, for Arsenal); and secondly, you're not looking at the whole picture, the most important part of which is that at the moment we have as many points as Chelsea and more than the rest.

no but its about momentum. thats why people dread november we lose momentum. whilst this november has no where near been as bad as in previous years if we continue to lose points i see a slippery slide repeating itself.

we haven't played well lately, we've dropped points and we need to put a stop to it.

We do indeed and I understand what you're getting at. However this is the time that it all started going wrong last year and in years before that we'd already fallen off the pace.

I just think that bearing in mind the difference in points over the past few seasons between Utd/Chelsea and ourselves I wouldn't expect us to still be top of the pile having ceded 6 'routine' points at home by this stage of the season.

Hopefully we'll smash them and this drivel will become irrelevant

Thats the worry, the xmas period is so busy, this can next month can really cement things. I don't think its over mind if we don't win on Monday

                                current form table

p6 w4 lost 1 drawn 1 same as chelsea.....in fact the form table for the last 6, 8 and 10 games same as chelsea.

the general rule of thumb on here, is finish above chelsea and we will win the league.

or is this some sort of minority report thing and you are complaining about what is going to happen.....how about lets get behind the team, lets hope it doesnt and if it does you can have your moan then ?
