    Number 7's

    Since Souness was in charge, who has been the best/worst number 7 we have had? It struck me last night that you could pick any one of them as the best yet it could be argued the same player could be the worst. Is there a glaring omission from my memory of our team since Kenny was in charge or have all our number 7's been ****e in the last 20 odd years?

    Did Beardsley not wear the 7 shirt briefly under Souness, before he went?

    I'm clutching at straws here

    Other than him, McManaman is a standout candidate for me. After him, we're talking about the likes of Smicer, Kewell etc. Not a lot to work with

        Well best was probably McManaman

        worst would be between smicer and kewell - kewell was the better player but never really set the world alight for us, vladi never did much either but his goal and peno in istanbul probably saves him

            Souness ****ed Beardsley off didnt he? He did wear 7 thats why I mentioned kenny as the boss rather than player!

            Forgot about MacManaman but he is a cunt anyway so he hardly covered the 7 shirt in its former glory.

            Maybe we should retire the number before it gets any worse.

              Best = McManaman

              but Smicer certainly did his bit in the CL final

                  Souness definitely ****ed Beardo off, but i was assuming that PB played a few games before he got shipped out, and therefore would've worn the 7 shirt during that short period of time. If so, that would make him the best number 7 since Souness took over, although he didnt spend a great deal of time there once GS came in.

                  Beardsley therefore can be considered or dismissed, depending on which side of the technicality you're looking from. Unless i'm mistaken and he literally never played a game for us under Souness.

                    We have a winner. How the **** was he ever allowed to pull that shirt on.

                    Cannot remember but I hope David Speedie never wore 7.

                      I think he did actually. Scored a few goals though, mind.

                      Rosenthal wore it sometimes too.

                              No need to retire it, just dont give it to new signings! New players have enough to deal with when they sign for us without being handed the famous no. 7 and expected to be the new King Kenny. It should be given to a player that has earned it with a few seasons good performances for us, from the current squad Gerrard is the obvious choice for it IMO
