    Own goals

After the own goal on Saturday I was looking up the stats, and during the 116 years of Liverpool FC no player has scored more own goals than Carra.

He's presently at 7. The next one down is Yeats at 5.
Hyypia, who has been in the side almost as long as Carra, has only 3 own goals.

Not having a major dig - just a little snippet of information there.

I would put it down to bad luck and in a couple of instances just bad decision making - why he didn't use his left foot on Saturday is beyond me.

I remember how Riise got slaughtered after his OG v Chavs when he should have used his right foot to clear it, well Carra should have used his 'wrong' foot on Saturday.

    Still a legend though.

      Carra: More OG's than G's

Read in the paper at the weekend that Jamie has scored more own goals than he has goals for Liverpool. A pretty emuzing statistic for such a great player.

First team goals scored = 5

Own Goals = Not sure, 7 or 8 I think.

Considering he's played 550 first team games I guess the goals for stat is the most shocking, but does the OG count mirror that of other players with a similar number of games? Seems like a lot to me.

Now that's unlucky. 2 OG threads a minute apart. An OG for me then.

aye it's mad how unlucky carragher has been with own goals, a mate of mine made a good point tho, that maybe it's down to carraghers commitment, in that he throws himself in front of everything that his over eagerness puts him the positions that could cause a mistake - if that makes sense

He has played about 100 games more than Yeats did and Hyypia has though I suppose.

Most of them have been plain bad luck, Saturday's was bad defending.

It does make sense, and its a very valid point too.

Its also no surprise that it was you mate who noticied it, not you

I always thought that old crazy horse Emlyn Hughes was responsible for quite a few own goals in his time.

Bloody fantastic!! Still prefer the other one because for the life of me I have no idea what he was trying to do - he had enough time to dribble away to safety!!

                              Good point

I was also wondering if there had been a rule change on when an own goal was credited. I'm seem to remember a while ago there weren't as many og's credited because if an attacker shot (on or off target) and you deflected it into your own net, it was credited as the strikers goal, I think it's only recently (mid-late 90's ??) that the rule was changed to how it presently stands (it's an OG if the initial shot was off target and defender deflects it in). I could be wrong on that though, can anyone else remember anything like that
