How would Rafa have fared as Chelsea manager (circa 2004)?

Fair enough Jose had a lot of money to spend, but he did superbly to manage a squad with such big egos and who cost so much money. He seemed to pick the right team on most occasions, kept the core of the team pretty much the same and got results.

I wouldnt have said Maureen spent the money wisely, all of his best players were there before he took charge. By class do you mean a stinking, lying, cheating scumbag of a manager? Weird how class is defined now a days.

I'm not sure that Jose bought many of the players who were key to his success at Chelsea (was Drogba his - if so I'll make an exception there and for Carvalho but Duff, Robben, Lampard, Cole and Cech were certainly Ranieri's work) - He was lucky that the Ranieri purchases were by and large excellent. I think Rafa would have won the league with that squad to be honest - players like Duff at the time are a perfect encapsulation of the type of efficient attacking player that would work well for him.

I think Rafa's tactics by and large have been excellent. Even now we lack some of the players to execute them in some circumstances though. This is a reasonable criticism to some extent of Rafa. I think he has been hamstrung by the unpredictability of our financial resources but I also think that at times his transfer gambles (notably Keane and Babel) haven't come off - I wonder how much we miss Paco Herrera in terms of being someone whose judgment Rafa trusted and understood his way of playing.

No idea to be honest.

We all know the strengths of each of them and I would say that Rafa is the better tactician but that Mourinho is the better at man-management.

As Mourinho already spoke perfect English whe he came over I think he was off to an ideal start, it would be difficult to see Rafa having the same immidiate impact.

It would also have depended on which players Benitez would have brought in, I could only guess at the players Bentez would sign in an ideal world.

ranieri had built a very good squad. mourinho inherited a far far better team. i think rafa would have been at least as successful there.

We don't know for sure ( as Marky correctly pointed out for you ), it's just your oppinion.
