I was wondering why Rafa doesn't try Agger at LB? Top quality player and likes marauding forward with the ball. I think it's worth a try. Maybe not against Arsenal today but Bolton game?

Agger at left back?

I have been thinking that for ages, he has pace, can charge down the pitch, has a great shot, good crosser of the ball .... better than the current shambolic LB's we have currently.
With Carra and Skrtel (when back to full fitness) in the CB's it would a strong back line defensively and potentially offensively as well.
It might be a better idea to go 3 at the back with Carra, Skrtel and Agger.... just a thought.

yes, think 3 at the back would be better suited, have Agger as the spare man who can set attacks up. Not sure if he would have the right mentality to play LB.

Three at the back is a poor idea IMO. Agger at left back certainly has some merit. I think it probably will only be tried once Rafa has given up entirely on Dossena though. It is one thing to replace him with a specialist left back who we need to develop like Insua or an established option like Aurelio but I think it would be a real kick in the teeth to move someone out of position. I know he isn't popular and hasn't been good but I think we will all be able to tell when Rafa gives up on him and I trust he is doing something right in training to have been persevered with in the way he has."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

i think your point about Insua is right, but Rafa has mentioned recently that 3 at the back is one of 3 formations he likes us to play, though I dont really recall him playing it too often.

I believe he mentioned a 3-4-3. I think he likes playing it against **** teams where he thinks he doesn't have to worry about there forwards and their wing players are unlikely to score. In those limited circumstances or if playing for a draw a back three based formation has some benefits. I think that playing an established pattern and our regular need to win rather than draw means that we should see it very rarely.Originally posted by Parm View Posti think your point about Insua is right, but Rafa has mentioned recently that 3 at the back is one of 3 formations he likes us to play, though I dont really recall him playing it too often."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

Insua isn't good enough defensively. Going forward he's excellent but Rafa doesn't play with players like that. I'd be surprised if Insua became a hit at Liverpool. I like the guy but he just doesn't fit in with Rafa's type of team.Originally posted by dww View PostThree at the back is a poor idea IMO. Agger at left back certainly has some merit. "Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.
"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

Dont know if I would agree with that, Rafa seems to want his full backs to get forward and provide the extra width. He wouldnt have went out and bought 2 attacking full backs this summer if it wasnt the case.Originally posted by Chewbacca View PostInsua isn't good enough defensively. Agger at left back is madness IMHO. The lad is a brilliant centre half. Let him play there.
I'm also dead against 3 at the back. Far too defensive IMHO. Better to play a flat 4 with 2 attacking fullbacks, like we do when we're on song.
Agree with those that have been praising Insua. The lad could really do us a favor if he comes good and makes that position his own. It's easy to distract fat people. It's a piece of cake.
