Funny how people can see the same incident in different ways. That's part of the beauty of the game I suppose .

IMHO Gerrard should have done better. The cross wasn't hit that hard and all he had to do was direct it on target. An on form Stevie would have tucked that one away all day long.

Mate its bloody hard to try and direct anything stretching for a ball like that, especially at that pace

Stevie did well to make contact

Not easy, but he's done it before. And Ian Rush made a living out of it! He should have done better and his reaction after missing it tells you he realises that too.

But having made contact, and full contact at that, he should have got it on target.

You could tell by his reaction, he knew he should have bagged that one.

The Kuyt cross is at 6:20 in to the clip.

Watch the clip again - In the seconds before Kuyt plays the ball, it looks like Stevie is being marked - this is the snapshot Kuyt will have in his head as he looks back at the ball to put the cross in. Just before Kuyt plays the ball, the guy that should be marking Stevie is ball watching, doesn't pick up Gerrards run which leaves him in much more space than he should be in (Gerrard then slows slightly in light of this).

I'm sure Kuyt whips the ball in like that because he believed Stevie would be marked and running at full tilt - those whipped in crosses are a nightmare for defenders and quite often lead to own goals.

Having analysed it some more, I believe that Kuyt played a decent ball under the circumstances, had the defender done his job, Stevie wouldn't have slowed and the ball would have been almost perfect.

Kuyt is pants. I'm sick & f**king tired of hearing about all this "good work he does that nobody sees". I'm baffled to even imagine any "good work" that can't be seen. He's atrocious. A gimp. I simply refuse to believe any other team in the top 6 would have him anywhere near their satrting XI.

Are you on crack? What was good about it... his (lack of a) touch? (not having any) control? (no) ability to simply find a teammate with a pass?

                  what about that?
Cross? It was a shot! Usain Bolt wouldn't have gotten on the end of that one

I'd have Babel as he has the one thing Dirk Kuyt doesn't: Ability. He also has pace & I've said this a '000 times b4 but if we are simply looking for a workhorse to straddle the RHS then buy kevin Davies & pocket the £9m we paid for that Dutch (****)

I love Rafa. I absolutely hate the negative crap on these forums but enough is enough on this guy. Get rid. ASAP.

kuyt had a better game yesterday than he did at hull. but that cross should have been better.

he should never be played as a striker ever again, we'd be better off putting hypia upfront than kuyt. keep him on the right and he'll be steady eddy.

I don't think anyone goes on about "all the good work he does that nobody sees" as you have put.

The hard work he does is evident for anyone who has eyes - the biggest criticism of him in the past is that he lacked the skill to back up his hard work.

Its fine for you to have your opinions but to call him a gimp is OTT and makes you look like a bit of a muppet.

No bertie, as rudedog says resorting to calling our players names is OTT, and is something we don't like on here. It's all well and good having an opinion on a player, but why the need to slag him off personally, especially when he does (whether it makes him good enough for us or not) sweat blood and guts for us. Please cut it out.

Fair enough. Just still wound up after yesterday. Rudedog, I apologise
