Couldn't agree more. I love Kuyt but thought yesterday he was pretty average.Originally posted by Nick77 View PostIt's wierd cos the last 3 or 4 games it looks as though Keane is coming good & Kuyt is going backwards..."That's how I found myself on the Kop that day I had my blue-and-white scarf safely tucked away inside my coat as I listened to Liverpool songs and swayed with the masses.
Then City scored and I screeched and this big bloke, a Liverpool supporter, made towards me and I thought he was going to throttle me. But he just pulled my scarf from under my coat so it lay on the outside, and said: "You should always be proud of your colours, lad."

Average professional football strikers/attackers and players in general can control the ball, create a goal threat consistently and atleast genuinely look like can do their job which is creating or scoring goals.Originally posted by jono View PostCouldn't agree more. Kuyt can't do any of that on a consistent basis. He does score an occasional goal but his first touch, poor passing and terrible shooting prevents us from scoring tons of goals which doesn't really help matters at all. People bitched about Dossena and other players when we drew with Hull, but if Kuyt could actually control and shoot a football we'd have won.
I don't mind him on the right, although ideally we should have better players there. But as a striker (especially a lone striker) he's a ridiculous option.

Kuyts workrate down the right is great against top sides, but he is a liability when we are in possesion, and should never ever start against weaker sides. Eithe way he is awful up front )where he was purchased for... (makes me wonder if anyone from LFC actually saw him play in Holland).
Cant understand why Rafa cant see that though. Pennant is a far better option. In the beginning, Fowler created the Heaven and the Earth.

keane is finding his feet because he's being played in his favorite position and not on the left or wherever it was when he first came. he's benefited from torres being out. to help keane out kuyt has been moved upfront from his attacking right role, kuyt is a very poor striker and his game has suffered.
keane can't play 4231 and kuyt is better on the right of a 4231. it'll get interesting when torres is back. i can see 442 being used more against weaker teams and 4231 against the big teams and in europe.

I think this debate has been done to death but I think that Kuyt is a really very good player but he has limitations which are exposed when he is an isolated front man. He has been exceptional on the right and far less bad than many make out up front this season. He has wherever he has played annoyed defenders and made chances for others.
Keane has put in good performances which have integrated with the rest of the team on relatively few occasions. He is a good player but he hasn't yet managed a run of games where he has really contributed consistently. He seems to have similar problems to Kuyt when player at the head of 4-2-3-1 in that we leave him isolated and he doesn't know what to do.
It will be interesting to see what happens when Torres is back as I still think we need to be aiming to have 4 goal threats in the team at once. The obvious ones being Gerrard, Torres, Keane and Kuyt/Benayoun and I think it is pretty hard to fit four of those and the players that have made our better performances happen like Alonso and Riera into the same team."The man who never alters his opinion is like standing water, and breeds reptiles of the mind."

well given we paid 20 mill for keane and he has only just started going it has to be said our return from Keane has been so so at best.
I would expect KEane to kick on from here.
As for Kuyt, he has done better than last season and that has to be a bonus, but I dont think any of us expect mcuh more in terms of goals from him.

It’s ridiculous peoples attitude towards Kuyt, it really does amaze me. We wouldn’t be top of the league without him, nor would we be in the Champions League. Yesterday was actually the only good performance of the year that Kuyt hasn’t played well.
People need to be careful what they wish for...If we are all only happy when we are really winning in the end, when your race finishes, what life would that be?
