Post Bolton Match Robbie Keane quote

"I enjoyed the position I played against Bolton, up front on my own. That's my best position and where I have played for the last ten years, I enjoy it.

"But wherever the boss wants me to play, I will do it for the team, that's the most important thing."

Now, I swear I heard him say free role not up front on my own - so who was dreaming/making **** up?

The quotes on the BBC seem to indicate that it is 'free role' but if it is then the quote has been even more mangled than I expected.

Well i've not checked, but believe the above posts...****in media are ****e, even today in my Post it said in the match report when describing our first goal yesterday...."Rieras Header", ffs header?, do these people actually watch the game, or even do any research.

I see **** like this all the time in match reports, facts from the game totally wrong, they are so quick to slate a player for not doing their job right...."do your ****in own first matey" is what i say.

I was deffo one who said get rid of him in Jan.

His next few games will decide.

If we could play a Keane and Torres up front
                  with Gerrard behind someway,
then we wil destroy anythink that gets in our way.

                  Don't really care what's behind.

apart from when we tried to play him on the left or up front on his own.

its clear that if we want to see the best of robbie keane we need to play 442 or even 352.

Is there really much difference between playing the role support/"hole" striker in a 4-4-2 and playing as the central one behind, say, Torres, in a 4-2-3-1?
                        .
Suppose you have a physicist and a sociologist standing at the side of a field, observing a set of events unfolding on the field. The physicist does [describes] it using the terminology of mass and velocity and frequency of radiation and the rest. And the sociologist does it by describing it as a rugby match.

May the Lord bless this post.

I don't see there's much difference at all. And I don't want to sound a tool but I've played in that position (in a 4-4-2) and, although no team I ever lined up in used a 4-2-3-1, I cannot for a minute imagine how it could be any different playing in 'the Gerrard role'. It is the same. You support the centre-forward, link play between him and the midfield and make runs beyond the striker.

IMO it depends on how flexible the three in the 4-2-3-1 is. For us I suspect the difference is minimal. I posted an article in general football about the rise of 4-2-3-1 the fall of 4-4-2 in which the 4-4-2 formation United played to win the cup winners cup in the early 90's is seen as a direct precursor of the 4-2-3-1 in terms of how the front players were used.

And he so obviously said he enjoyed playing "in the hole" in that interview. Almost every single fecking media outlet last night was carrying "Keane prefers solo role" or "Keane enjoys being a loner up front for Liverpool", completely bloody ridiculous (although it is a good lesson in not taking everything you read at face value I suppose).

I could not dig, I dared not rob:
Therefore I lied to please the mob.
Now all my lies are proved untrue

                              Mine angry and defrauded young?
