Premier League footballer Steven Gerrard remained in custody tonight after he was arrested over a nightclub brawl.

The Liverpool captain was one of six men held after a fight outside a late-night bar in Southport, Merseyside.

But several hours later he was apparently caught up in an altercation outside the Lounge Inn in Bold Street.

Police were called and arrested six men on suspicion of assault in nearby Lord Street.

The town centre business remained shut today but (evidence of a fight inside ) could be seen through the windows.

Spots of blood were clearly visible on the floor, along with shards of broken glass.

I don't normally subscribe to the conspiracy theory that all the media are against us....I just think it is "The Daily Mail" that seems to have taken on the style of "The S*N". However there are big inconsistencies in some of the stories emerging about this altercation. The above extract is from the Echo website, with my highlighting.

How is it that twice in the piece they claim that the incident happened outside, yet these journalists can still see the evidence inside the Lounge?????

In the Times piece we have the victims story as distributed by his media mouthpiece, his mother.

Mr McGee’s mother, Patricia McGee, 61, said last night: “He was only with his partner in the bar. I have absolutely no idea how he became involved in this. He was just out for a drink. The whole family is shaken up.”

Yet they didn't think to get the full story of an independent witness, but they got just enough from him to set the scene...

John Watts, a lawyer whose daughter Eve was hosting a birthday party at the venue, said that Gerrard had been in good spirits during the night. He said: “He bought a bottle of champagne for my daughter when he found out it was her birthday.

“It was a really civilised occasion in a middle-class bar. There was no sign of trouble kicking off. Eve is very upset because it spoilt what was a very pleasant evening.”

I wonder if we are watching a slow news day in the United Kingdom.

I don't think that you understand that this is a tragedy, not only for Gerrard himself but also for the club.

This could swing the decision from the banks from a yes to a no. A no could very well mean administration.

IF he is found guilty then the club will drop a lot in value.

I think you`re going seriously overboard here. It depends on what he`s found guilty of, and what the sentence is. If it`s a fine it won`t change anything, if it`s a even a short prison sentence he`ll do time in the summer. If he gets a year in prison it will effect the value of the team, but he won`t get anything like that.
