Ferguson issues title warning to Liverpool

Sir Alex Ferguson believes Manchester United's title-winning experience will see them secure a third straight Premier League title this season - and equal Liverpool's record haul of championships.

United have won 17 domestic titles to Liverpool's 18 and Fergie claimed his current crop of players have what it takes to draw level with their Anfield rivals and create another slice of history.

Although United are playing catch-up this season, with games to make up following their involvement in the UEFA Super Cup and FIFA World Club Cup, Fergie knows his players can haul their way back into contention despite Liverpool's impressive win at Newcastle yesterday.

"We'd rather be top, there's no question about that," said Fergie. "But with our experience of being involved in these races, you'd expect that not to be an issue.

"The second half of the season is the most important. When you lose a game it really means something, in particular when you get to March and April.

"My experience tells me that the teams at the top generally drop points.

Sometimes you don't expect to drop points, but it happens so you need the experience to see that through."

United face a frantic fixture schedule in the coming weeks which will see them play nine games in the next month alone - including a two-leg Carling Cup semi-final against Derby.

Their league matches against Fulham and Wigan have been re-arranged for January 14 and February 17, games United must win to keep the pressure on Liverpool and Chelsea at the top.

"We've got the squad so, hopefully, we can cope," said Fergie. "At the moment there's a trend of the sides at the top dropping more points.

"It happened last season, teams getting results you didn't expect. Manchester City beat us twice and we also lost at Bolton. It tells you that in this league you can lose anywhere, because it's so competitive."

I'd still make Utd clear favourites because as he says they've been there done it and got numerous t-shirts. Chelsea too have experience. Plus throw in the returning Torres and club bouncer and the inclination to tinker around will be just too much for Rafa to ignore.

We've given ourselves a good chance but we need to get another 45 points I reckon. Those home draws could well be ours and chelseas downfall.

Fingers crossed though. I hope Fergie carries on with this kind of stuff as it'll mean we're worrying them.

Bottom line is our team is going to have to show the bottle and desire to stay top - the hard work starts now and every game will be like a cup final.

It has been so long that I can only dream of what it will feel like the moment we are Champions and pray it happens this season - what a way to win it that will be, stopping Utd equalling our record should be more than sufficient motivation for the boys.

        whiskey nose is a cunt.

wouldnt it be beautiful if we win it sending him into retirement
"Sky and Setanta have the right to choose their games and it will be the same for everyone. So Mr Ferguson will not be complaining about fixtures and a campaign against United.

"Or there is another option. That Mr Ferguson organises the fixtures in his office and sends it to us and everyone will know and cannot complain. That is simple."

The key part of the season will be the games around the Champions League. We play Real away first and then at home followed by the away game to United.

Also, in regards to the article, he seems worried.

I expect them to bend over (no pun, seriously) for them. United are strong at home, its away from home when Ronaldo gets booed and there is a siege mentality against United when they lose their bottle. The points dropping should hopefully begin against Chelsea next Sunday.

Would expect the Mancs to win comfortably tonight because Boro are **** just now but that won't change anything, we are still the top team and surely favourites now. Torres is back and we are finally hitting form !! Wooohooo, get it up you Fergie

Well looks like Carra got his Christmas wish of mind games from the other top team's managers.
